Digital camera reviews of Ricoh LC-1 Auto Lens Cap for GX-100 & GX-200Digital camera Review: Good hack for Panasonic Lumix LX-3 Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this after reading it could be used on a Panasonic Lumix LX-3 camera. WIth some padded tape, you can make it work. It doesn't completely seal, so it's not good for protecting the lens in dusty or misty areas, but it's certainly neater than dealing with the lens cap on a string that came with the camera.
Digital camera Review: Handy, but not perfect Summary: 4 Stars
It's nice that I no longer need to worry about removing the lens cap when shooting with my GX200. This cap offers protection from fingers but, in my use, I find that it lets in a fair amount of dust.
Digital camera Review: Nice add on for the lx3. Summary: 5 Stars
If you have a LX3 you know how impractical is the included lens cap.
I bought this item based on recommendations, and it works pretty well.
Only one problem, when you zoom in, the lens will retract, so will the lens cap, giving you two black corners, like the pinhole effect. I solved this by sticking a piece of 4mm black foam in each aperture. But sticking the foams greatly reduces the durability of the lens cap itself, because it is more open, and it could actually bend out if not used carefuly.
I ended up removing the foam, I think it looks better without it and I dont use zoom anyways.
Digital camera Review: Not for the LX3 Summary: 1 Stars
I have the panasonic LX3 and can say this...The camera's software prevents the Lens from movement upon start-up if it detects that the Lens Cap is still in place and you get a message on the LCD. Therefore I don't see how this would work with the LX3 with latest firmware (2.2); Without having the Lens Cap opening ahead of the camera detection sensor, the lens will not move to its initial startup position. Thats the way I see it. More simply the camera needs to "see" sunlight before it will deploy the lens, as part of its start up routine upon turning on the camera.
Digital camera Review: Ricoh LC-1 + Lumix LX3 = Cool Convenience. Summary: 5 Stars
This solves the 'inconvenience' of removing the lens cap before taking a picture. Just turn the camera on, and the lens 'pushes' through the cap, like some awesome Transformer-Borg gadget.
I expected it would make people smile when they saw it, and then I would take a picture of their amusement. The average look, however, has been one of confused astonishment, with at least one raised eyebrow.
I still love it. Makes the picture process faster, enabling me to capture moments more effectively.
Which, in the end, is why we buy cameras.
Note: To make this fit on an LX3, you need to unscrew the adapter ring and 'pop' it on. To prevent vignetting at the far end of the zoom, create a small hump on two of the flaps. All you need is black electrical tape for this. I simply rolled tape into a small 1/5 inch cylinder, and used one strip to attach two cylinders to the flaps. Google 'Ricoh LC-1 and LX3' for more information and techniques.
