Digital camera reviews of Roku HD-XR PlayerDigital camera Review: Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!!! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband got this for me for Christmas last year and I love it. We did not want to get a Blu-Ray player and start over buying DVDs since we know all this stuff will eventually go digital. We had also bought an HD TV last year and this is the perfect accessory. I love my Netflix and Amazon on demand! We have wireless G router and still get great streaming video. Even things that are not in HD look great through the ROKU. I would say we have had very few issues such as stopping a movie/tv show and restart due to network streaming. We have no need for cable with the great varieties of programming through Netflix and Amazon. I do plan on eventually upgrading our router, but honestly not in any rush because it does awesome now with streaming. We have had this almost a year and we use it frequently. Also, what I love about the Roku is that you don't have to store your movies on a hard drive. You don't have to worry about running out of space, because everything you buy from Amazon stays with Amazon. I don't normally do reviews on items, but the Roku has been so great I thought if this helps anyone out there who is on the fence about the purchase, you will be pleasantly surprised at how great it is.
Digital camera Review: BUY IT, PERIOD. Very satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
Now Roku XDS a new advanced version is available, but I have not tried it, the only difference seems to be the fact that the new Roku XDS can stream 1080p pictures where as Roku HD-XR 720P, but honestly does it make a big difference??
I bought this on Amazon during one of the gold box deal events and I am glad I bought this one, there are numerous internet sites you can connect to ( including Netflix, VUDU, Amazon Video on demand etc...).
Once you update the player it gives you more options including options to view somemovies and documentaries on netflix which are NOT on your instant play list as well !!!.
It is important to note that one you have this ROKU box you can go ahead and buy a LCD/LED or Plasma WITHOUT INTERNET APPS, all this ROKU does is to put those apps on your TV, so by choosing a model of TV without internet apps you can save some money since Tv manufacturers charge tons just for an internet enabled TV itself + charges that you incur on wi-fi etc...
All in all if i buy today i would probably go for a 1080P version but definetly donot regret buying this one, now i can watch HD movies directly on my TV, wow.
Just to re-assert, with this box you can get into only few movie streaming sites and helps u play movie over the internet, IT IS NOT AN INTERNET BROWSER if that is what ur looking for.
Digital camera Review: Best Christmas Gift Ever for My Elderly Parents Summary: 5 Stars
My mom has been a huge fan of my ability to stream Netflix videos via my Nintendo Wii since first experiencing it and has been hinting for some time that she was interested in setting up something similar for herself. My parents are not gamers, however, and it made no sense to buy them a Wii just to stream video, even taking into account occasional visits by my 6 year-old nephew.
To complicate matters, my parents have an old console TV that they use in the living room, where they watch the majority of their TV. They've already jury-rigged it for a VCR/DVD player combo and to receive a digital signal, but I figured that adding any VOD device to this already labyrinthine set-up would require a great deal of creative problem-solving and a few trips to Radio Shack, at the least.
After carefully reading the tech specs on this Roku player and deciding that, worse come to worst, I could always return it, I placed the order for the device, figuring it would make a great Christmas gift.
Come Christmas, the present was unwrapped and much excitement was expressed. So far, so good. New Year's Eve, I traveled to my parents house to set it up (a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to finish the task until a few days into the New Year, when Radio Shack would once again be open).
I kid you not, the most complicated part of setting up the Roku player was getting the back of the remote off and putting in the batteries correctly.
1. Place the Roku player on top of the TV (it's an old-fashioned console TV, remember).
2. Plug the power cord into the Roku player and then a power strip.
3. Plug the video cords from the back of the Roku player into the inputs on the front of the DVD/VCR player.
4. Change the channel on the VCR/DVD player until the Roku welcome screen appears.
5. Enter the information for the wireless network.
6. Grab a laptop and activate the Roku player on the Roku website (5 minutes at the absolutely most).
7. Set up accounts on Netflix and Amazon Video on Demand for my parents and connect them to the Roku (a very simple, almost instantaneous process, 10 minutes at most).
8. Walk my parents through how to use Netflix and add videos to their instant queue (the bulk of my time spent).
My mom is in love, and my dad is somewhat impatiently waiting his turn with the Netflix queue. They both agree that it has been the best Christmas gift ever, and they're so excited to be "in the 21st century" with their new entertainment setup. Even better, now when I don't know what to get them for birthdays and anniversaries in the future, I can just gift them another few months of Netflix membership or add funds to their Amazon VOD account or maybe even give them a trial Hulu Plus subscription. Their entertainment options are now endless, and they are extremely happy for it!
Digital camera Review: Best alternative to paid tv subscription Summary: 5 Stars
We gave up paid tv subscription for this device and we haven't turned back. Previously we paid $54 per month for tv but now we pay $9 for the Netflix subscription. We have two young children and at this point they haven't noticed a difference. Plus we enjoy not having to watch commercials. We haven't tried the Amazon Video On Demand yet but will do so soon. Our internet speed is about 6Mbps down so streaming to the Roku box is super fast. Set up for the box is super easy and took about 8 minutes...(running up and down to the computer upstairs for final set up) Guess having my laptop nearby would have made it faster.)
Digital camera Review: Best product out there to stream Netflix! Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased a Roku HD-XR Player and couldn't be more pleased. I've been tossing around getting a Wii or upgrading my blu-ray player to stream Netflix, but for cost effectiveness decided on the Roku. I got the HD-XR model since Netflix is getting more and more HD content. The setup couldn't be more simple. I plugged in the HDMI cable and the power cord and that was all the conecting it took. Setting up the device took a whole 5-10 minutes. It found my wireless network with no problem and I was on Netflix in no time. I tried out both standard def and Hi-Def movies and they look better than cable. My only complaint is the search function on Netflix for the Roku isn't quite as easy to use as it could be. You can't search by actor, director, etc. Though I found an easy remedy to that is to find what your looking for from your computer and save it to your instant queue.
All in all a great investment!
