Digital camera reviews of Roku HD-XR PlayerDigital camera Review: Device Okay but Outsourced customer service horrible!!! Summary: 1 Stars
Ordered Roku N1000 in October. There was a mistake on their end. Emailed them multiple times and called them only to talk to call center in India. The girl said that she didnt know how to return just 1 item of entire order and nobody was around. She said to return entire order instead but refused to give a RMA. I told them that I would return it without an RMA issued. After many neglected emails and phone conversations I eventually gave up and ate the cost. Now stuck with additional box and they refuse to correct the issue. Spoke with call center manager and he refused to give out his manager's name or number.
Device is okay but customer service is horrendous!
Digital camera Review: Did not work. Returned. Summary: 1 Stars
It couldn't retrieve video from Amazon VOD, nor from Vimeo. I didn't see any point in creating a Netflix account just to find out it doesn't work there either. Returned the frustrating paperweight. No wonder it was a Lightning Deal... apparently it was a defective unit. Would have only rated it 0 stars if possible.
Digital camera Review: Didn't even survive 10 months Summary: 1 Stars
I should have known better from my experiences with the Roku wifi radio (it didn't survive long also - the internal power transformer burned out because it never should have been designed to reside inside the case): suddenly as I'm watching a movie today, this device lost its ability to connect wirelessly to my home network. I'm tired of Roku's rofu (I really miss the times when manufacturers took pride in their product design and quality); I'm pretty sure the original sales offering did not describe it as "disposable". I'm switching to AppleTV and this brick is going in the trash.
Digital camera Review: Difficult to get working on the road Summary: 3 Stars
Roku is great but can be a challenge to get working and obtain Roku support. Roku technical support asked for my Roku order number and when informed that I purchased from Amazon, told me to call Amazon instead because I hadn't purchased directly from Roku.
My problem was getting Roku to work in a hotel room where internet service requires that you interact with a web browser for agreeing to terms of service, and sometimes for payment, based on your unique device MAC address.
Good luck trying to figure this out. Roku settings tells you that you are connected via ethernet and to the internet. You have an IP address on the settings page. However, attempting Netflix, Amazon or checking for a Roku update fails with no explanation. Roku could and should tell you when establishing your ethernet connection or attempting a Roku update, that [...] cannot be successfully accessed (because the web request to [...] was intercepted and returned the hotel's web page).
I solved this problem by having my laptop temporarily impersonate the MAC address of my Roku so I could respond to the hotel web page. Roku helpfully labels the MAC address on their box. It is also displayed under player info settings. My Windows ethernet driver allowed me to change my laptop MAC address: right click 'My Computer', click Device Manager, Network Adapters, right click the name of your Network Interface Card, click 'Properties', click the 'Advanced' tab, select 'Locally Administered Address', choose the option button besides 'Value' text box, enter your desired MAC address of 12 characters without dashes, click 'OK', disable your NIC and then enable it again.
I only gave this product three stars because of my poor experience with Roku technical support. When working, it is five stars. Small enough to fit in my suitcase with a mini-hub and ethernet cables so I can have my laptop and Roku working at the same time.
Digital camera Review: Disappointing Summary: 2 Stars
Trying to watch baseball games is an exercise in futility and frustration. Drop-outs, freezing and rebooting occur frequently, often every few seconds (My PC and connection are not the problem). There is no customer service or support basically, either at Roku.com or MLB.com (who refer you to the other party for help), just self-help boards that are iffy at best for resolving issues.
