I ordered 2 of these since it was listed as 1 item and ended up getting 4 speaker stands.
That said I opened 1 box and had both speaker stands put together withing 20 minutes. No "wood" splitting, wasn't extra careful or anything, but I did alternate screwing in the 2 screws at a time on the bottom stand, and all 4 screws on the speaker pad.
Pad is 5"x5", but Isolation pads do a good job of holding the speaker in place. I am using these stands with Polk Rti4 Speakers, and can rock the stand quite a bit without any worry of the speakers falling off. That said, if you knock it over you knock it over, but that is true with most stands, and at 31" its a pretty big fall for your speakers. I wouldn't place these anywhere you have traffic in your house, but up by the TV, they work great.
See a lot of places listed these as rated for 15lbs, but the Sanus site rates them for 20lbs. Honestly if I had to do it over again, I would get stands that had a 7"+ speaker pad or better, but these get the job done, and I saved some money.
Rti4s are WxD 7"x11", weight 15lbs each for anyone who needs a size reference.
