Most people I know have bateries all over the house. You never know which ones are good and which ones are depleted. This tester works great with most kind of batteries and will not only pay for itself in battery savings - you also reduce the number of bateries that end up in landfills.

Excellent battery tester, its easy to use and very accurate. For the price and convenience I would recommend this product. It tests all regular household batteries, even a child could use this tester and know when to keep or toss away batteries.Digital camera Review: Excellent price and quality

Pop a battery in and the needle moves to tell you how much charge is left.
You have to make sure the battery is the right way round, as indicated by a + or -
You also have to make sure the battery terminals are touching the testers terminals, else you will get a false negative
But thats not too hard to do.
The red slider can be moved up and down for different sized cells, but you have to keep the pressure on yourself as it does not lock into place.

This is an inexpensive way to test batteries, and I've been happy with it. Yes, it's plastic and simply made, but it does a good job of testing AAA to D cell batteries as well as the little button batteries. It's a welcome addition to the battery drawer in my kitchen. The free Amazon.com shipping (with orders over $25)makes it an even better value.
