Dragged two of these all over the bush in Southern Africa for a two week photo safari. Worked perfectly under desert and swampy conditions. No problem with usb power on my little Mac G4 notebook. Backed up my irreplaceable photos flawlessly. Carried in a padded pouch in an overstuffed backpack. Bounced around the lower cargo bin of a couple bush planes. i really love the look and size of this external hardrive, but i could not get it to work with my powerbook g4. i went to the western digital website and it recommended a number of steps which I could not duplicate (apparently, this doesn't work well with some macs as indicated on the website). then i waited 20 minutes for technical service and the guy told me i needed a power boost cable because my laptop wasn't supplying the external hard drive with enough power. i didn't want to waste $10 so i ended up just returning. too bad, the hard drive looked great and was very compact, just didn't seem to work with my apple. i'll just buy the new time capsule instead and not deal with the compatibility issues.Digital camera Review: DO NOT BUY IT!

Don't purchase this product if you own a MacBook. My MacBook would NEVER recognize this external hard drive NO MATTER WHAT I DID - including purchasing a cable with a double USB end! Disappointed. It failed after 2 uses, within 2 months of purchase. WD bases the warranty on date of manufacture, and says it's out of warranty. Unfortunately, I don't have the receipt to contradict or override their information.
Very upset. $$$ down the drain. 'Nuf said.
