Digital camera Review: Adequate, but not stellar

This was advertised as a hard drive case through another site and I bought two for my USB portable hard drive. For the price, I am not disappointed. I expected a mediocre product and that's what I got.
One major detraction is securing mechanism: it's a flimsy Velcro circle. That's all that's keeping the flap shut. It less secure than a zipper or a snap fastener and comes undone easily, so I do not recommend using the included carabiner to clip this pouch to your belt loop or a backpack/luggage. The back pouch for cables does not provide enough room for cables. You have to cram it in there. It's good for maybe a map or some papers, but not cables (see my photo in the product gallery). The ring shape of the carabiner also makes it difficult to use.
For those looking for a cheap protective case, this will suffice. Craftsmanship is not the best, as the seam bindings are a bit sloppy. What this bag is good for: as a pouch for your devices (like camera and GPS) if you're putting this case inside another bag or your glove compartment. It's stiff, yet bendable, so it offers adequate protection against bumps, dust and scratches. It's not shiny brown leather like 2 of the photos make it appear. It's brown matte fabric over what I'm guessing to be a flexible plastic inner frame. It offers some shock protection against drops.
If you are going to store a hard drive in a portable case, I suggest a stiffer shell like the Case Logic Compact Portable Hard Drive Case (Black), which has a zipper and an elastic band inside to hold the drive in place. Hard drives are more sensitive to shock because of their moving parts (motor, disk platters, read/write magnetic arm).
If you want a more stylish, protective wearable pouch for your camera/GPS, I suggest something like the the Mountainsmith Cyber II Protective Compact Digital Camera Pouch, Warm Gray, Large. It zips up, provides plenty of cushioning, and can be worn with a carabiner.
