Digital camera reviews of Saitek PS38 Cybrog F.L.Y5 Flight Stick

Digital camera Review: I bought a Cyborg FLY 5 (Cyborg X) joystick to play MechWarrior 4. VERY BAD decision.... It's a POS Stick!
Summary: 1 Stars

I have used Microsoft joysticks for years, mostly their Sidewinder Precision lineMicrosoft Sidewinder Precision 2 Joystick but with Microsoft wholly behind its Xbox Console Line the supply of even gently used Sidewinder Precisions and Precision 2s are drying up. I first tried the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick (Silver/Black) Pro line, and found them to be designed more for looks than ergonomics and longevity. They have plenty of buttons on the base but none fit the hand. And whoever tilted the stick so far forward must have been on drugs or had a badly malformed wrist. Hence when I read of the Cyborgs flexibility and ergonomics design I thought I would give it a try. Well, good effort in those endeavors. I set it's tilt, height of grip, width of grip, tilt of thumb buttons and coolie hat, blue lights, all great however... whoever buried the coolie hat and trim wheel between 4 thumb buttons was an idiot. Both get bumped far too much. Aside from the stick handle's design other disappointments show... the four base thumb buttons do not fit a hand at all and the shift button at the rear of stick is well out of reach of both. These five buttons are ok for rarely used actions like deploying flaps and lowering gear, but almost useless for many time required actions of a MechWarrior mech game simulation. I did like the Cyborg's front two button before the duel throttles though. They worked well for jumping and target designation. The split throttle worked ok if a bit weighty, I finally decided to only use half of it to lighten its movement, neat trick. Final issues with Cyborg stick are that it's heavy centering spring mimics pulling G in an airplane far better than training a mech's weapons. Fineness is not its forte. In addition to its heaviness, mine had more dead zone than both the M$ and Logitech sticks, even when set to minimum settings via an updated set of drives/control software. Not good where precision and quick reaction rule. So basically unless you love heavy action sticks, save this stick for flight maneuvers in an atmosphere.... And pray for Microsoft to sell its copyrights to the old Sidewinder Precision Pro series so someone will start their production line again. (I would personally love a Sidewinder Precision Pro with 6-8 base buttons vice the four they had. And that base of thumb, number 2 button was gold! Bring it back!) Anyway, for my two bits The Cyborg FLY 5 is useless for Mechwarrior.

Two week update, When I wrote "save this stick for flight maneuvers in an atmosphere..." I could have been saying, "Test its glide path to the nearest trashcan!" It's total lack of fineness and heavy action do not play well in any of my games. I wish I did not buy it.

Three week update, #2 thumb button broke off. Never have I had a button just break off a joystick. I usually get at least a year out of a stick, and even then usually just the switch under a button wears out. Avoid buying this POS joystick!

Digital camera Review: I want my money back
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm writing this review after my button 2 fell off and my POV down stopped working...

This joystick is not good for flight sims because:

1. There is way too much slop in the handle. The adjustability of this joystick might be nice but the linkages from the top of the joystick to the base is way too loose so tiny movements in the stick don't actually move the X and Y sensors.

2. To make matter worse the force to value relationship of the X and Y is way too stiff and when you combine it with the slop in the handle and the light, plastic, small surface-area base it makes smooth movement around the origin on X and Y difficult. You have to like hold it down on your lap and counter weight all your X/Y movements. Also it's like the spring adds a force spike right around the origin so small movements are harder to make than large ones, which is totally the opposite of what you would want.

I have no idea why this thing has so many 3 and 4 star reviews.

I really want my money back.

Digital camera Review: JoyStick
Summary: 5 Stars

After recieving this product. It is Great.Programs with ease and action is very good.It slightly sets off center..but no so bad it bothers anything.
Action is smooth and quick....great response. buttons are programable and it adjusts to fit ones hand size and buttons are adjustable as well. Over all a very nice product.
No Complaints at all.

Digital camera Review: Love this stick
Summary: 4 Stars

I was looking for a well-made joystic which has a built-in rudder control and throttle and decided to take a shot at this stick. I was worried that the buttons clustered on top of the stick were too close together along with the "cone-hat" and would be difficult to use as I have a disability which has weakened my fingers. Well..let me tell you..when I put this stick together and tried it with MS Fligh sim X..it was sheer pleasure. The stick feels well made and not heavy. The throttle which is 2 pc levers that can be seperated, was fluid and smooth. It also has a scroll wheel on top of the stick on the bottom of the cone-hat which really is 2 more buttons. I use a throttle-lever for flaps-axis and scroll wheel for elevator-trim. It has a soothing blue light near the the top buttons which matches the blue light in my pc case. The reason I didnt give this stick 5 stars is..1) The joystick is a little too resistant but not that bad, and 2)if you make abrupt movements with the stick, the base may move a little. I hope Saitek will make an adjustment for the spring tension. This stick is a work of engineering art.

Digital camera Review: Nice Joystick for Beginners
Summary: 5 Stars

Actually I got a upgraded version without notice. When I opened the package, it turned to be a Cyborg F.L.Y. 5.This is really a good joysitck for flight simulator. Not too complicated as Satitek X52, nor too simple. I'm a beginner of FSX, and this makes a huge difference compared with mouse or keyboard.Flying is much more complex than racing, after all it's really good.

BTW, I am in Canada, and this is a great deliver.
