Digital camera reviews of Samsung BD-P1400 1080p Blu-Ray Disc PlayerDigital camera Review: A Great Blu-Ray and DVD Player Summary: 5 StarsI was a little anxious about purchasing a Blu-Ray player other than the PS3, since it seemed that every Blu-Ray player on the market had a few flaws. I did not really want to purchase a game console, but it looked to be the best bang for the buck. That was until I started checking out Refurbished Samsung BD-p1400. I found a site selling these refurbished for $229.00, then was able to use a $10 off online coupon as well costing me only 219.00 plus shipping for the player. The player came with a 90 day parts and labor
warranty from Samsung, and I knew this wasn't enough, so for $20 more I added 3 years to that. Upon receiving my Samsung BD-P1400 I immediately hooked the player up to the internet to update the firmware on the machine(This process took about 15-20 minutes). After doing that I hookup everything up(hdmi, optical, very easy)to my Samsung DLP 1080p TV then proceeded through the setup which was a breeze. I played several of my standard DVD's since so many complained that it didn't play them. I must have played over 20 DVD's and not one gave me so much as a hiccup. After this I played some Blu-Ray movies, which included, Superman returns, Aliens VS Predator Requiem, 300, I am Legend, National Treasure 2, and 27 Dresses. They all played beautifully, in 1080p these movies looked just awesome. Great sound Great Picture, just great everything so far. Whatever you do, update the firmware immediately, I think a lot of people have problems because they don't do this important step. I hope this review helps.
Digital camera Review: Some improvement in customer support ver 1.7 update Summary: 4 StarsFirst of all, kudos to Amazon.com for this valuable service. I've had my BD-P1400 for about six months but have only recently hooked it up with the matching receiver and monitor. I've been going crazy trying to figure out why some BR disks play perfectly and some won't play at all. (With all the other quirks as well.)
Having just returned from the Samsung web site, I can report that firmware version 1.7 is available and there is a PDF instalation guide also. The upgrade procedure is a bit convoluted, so if "the firmware file is compressed (*.zip), the file should be uncompressed to CD image file (*.iso)." leaves you scratching your head, I recomend you not buy this player.
Digital camera Review: Not Ready for Prime Time Summary: 2 StarsAfter the advanced position taken by Samsung in the HDTV arena, I would have expected better products from them. This device, however, is more consistent with their old position of junk electronics producer. I am disappointed with its load time and kludgy user interface, but what takes the cake is its crazy habit of stopping playback at random places. Whether a "stop" is user-commanded or self-generated, the unit resumes properly if you hit "play" within its secret timeout window. If you wait beyond that window, however, it shuts itself down completely and you have to start over from the menu load. It's aggravating to say the least, and I'm looking forward to replacing it with a higher quality product.
Digital camera Review: Better than Expected! Summary: 5 StarsSamsung BD-P1400 is an excellent product. I was concerned over other negative info here, six months later I'm very glad I bought it. I upgraded the firmware right away, by downloading the file at Samsung's website and burned to CD. No problems. This player is great. Even my standard DVDs look better! Great surround 5.1 sound. Highly recommended!
Digital camera Review: Better than I expected Summary: 5 StarsI almost decided not to buy this unit based on many negative reviews regarding load-time and poor performance. I am glad I didn't listen. At first I thought this unit was a problem because I didn't get 1080P from Blu-rays, and I didn't get any upconversion on regular DVD's. I had bought low cost HDMI cables and couldn't believe they would make a difference since, as others have said, digital is digital - all or nothing. Then before giving up on the unit I went to Target and paid $39 for a brand name cable and to my surprise the unit worked flawlessly. It also upconverts my regular DVDs to 1080P - which is not documented or advertised in the documentation. I have had none of the issues I read about since purchasing a good HDMI cable - but sorry Amazon, most of the HDMI cables on your site don't work at max resolution (and I tried several of them from you and various other suppliers you partner with).
