Digital camera reviews of Samsung BD-P1400 1080p Blu-Ray Disc PlayerDigital camera Review: Not Ready for Prime Time Summary: 2 StarsAfter the advanced position taken by Samsung in the HDTV arena, I would have expected better products from them. This device, however, is more consistent with their old position of junk electronics producer. I am disappointed with its load time and kludgy user interface, but what takes the cake is its crazy habit of stopping playback at random places. Whether a "stop" is user-commanded or self-generated, the unit resumes properly if you hit "play" within its secret timeout window. If you wait beyond that window, however, it shuts itself down completely and you have to start over from the menu load. It's aggravating to say the least, and I'm looking forward to replacing it with a higher quality product.
Digital camera Review: Better than Expected! Summary: 5 StarsSamsung BD-P1400 is an excellent product. I was concerned over other negative info here, six months later I'm very glad I bought it. I upgraded the firmware right away, by downloading the file at Samsung's website and burned to CD. No problems. This player is great. Even my standard DVDs look better! Great surround 5.1 sound. Highly recommended!
Digital camera Review: Better than I expected Summary: 5 StarsI almost decided not to buy this unit based on many negative reviews regarding load-time and poor performance. I am glad I didn't listen. At first I thought this unit was a problem because I didn't get 1080P from Blu-rays, and I didn't get any upconversion on regular DVD's. I had bought low cost HDMI cables and couldn't believe they would make a difference since, as others have said, digital is digital - all or nothing. Then before giving up on the unit I went to Target and paid $39 for a brand name cable and to my surprise the unit worked flawlessly. It also upconverts my regular DVDs to 1080P - which is not documented or advertised in the documentation. I have had none of the issues I read about since purchasing a good HDMI cable - but sorry Amazon, most of the HDMI cables on your site don't work at max resolution (and I tried several of them from you and various other suppliers you partner with).
Digital camera Review: Great when it works but frustrating when it doesn't Summary: 2 StarsI love the blu-ray and upscaled pictures this player shows but the player takes FOREVER to load discs and I've had problems with it.
The biggest problem is that movies will lose sync with the audio. The picture will play ahead of the sound and I have to pause, rewind, pause, and then play for it to work. I don't know if my particular unit is defective or if this is just a problem with this player. This happens on both blu-ray and standard DVD discs.
Also, I can't get the network firmware upgrade to work and there is nothing in the manual to help me attach it to the network. The firmware by CD method worked (I think) but the process that Samsung says on its website to follow doesn't work.
This player looks cool and displays a great picture when it does work but overall I've been frustrated with this player.
Digital camera Review: Has everything you need in a bluray player, but features some annoyances Summary: 4 StarsGet ready for pure HD heaven. Has everything you need in a Bluray Player. Displays beautiful picture, creates great sound and has great features, however Samsung needs to work on the loading times and button response times. Bluray movies can take up to a minute or more to load. Another annoyance is the eject button on the player may take 5 to 10 seconds to respond once pressed. Samsung makes great products, but has been known for these issues in the past. I hope they get it right one day. To Samsung's credit, the remote controller is a lot more responsive than past players I've owned. I would recommend if the annoyances don't bother you.
