Digital camera reviews of Samsung BD-P1400 1080p Blu-Ray Disc PlayerDigital camera Review: I Wanted to Like It! Summary: 1 StarsI bought the BD-P1400 in a package deal with the latest and greatest Samsung 52" LCD Flat Screen and 7.1 surround sound system. I must say that I am very pleased with the system with the exception of the Samsung BD-P1400. When I connected the system via the HDMI cable, no signal was detected by the TV. By wiggling the HDMI connection on the back of the player, I would get an intermittent signal. The HDMI connector was found to be faulty on the BD-P1400. I took the unit back to Circuit City and secured a replacement unit, which had the same problem. Long story short, I went through 3 of these units and all had the same problem. To be sure, all the cables were checked and the HDMI inputs on the LCD were checked and all were working as they should. I really wanted to stay with the Samsung unit for the compatability features with the Samsung LCD but was rather frustrated with the connection issues. I opted for the Panasonic DMPBD30K, which cost $100 more, but Circuit City ate the difference. I am very pleased with the Panasonic unit, It loads in about half the time of the Samsung and is very user friendly.
Digital camera Review: Received defective unit!! Summary: 1 StarsI received my Blu-Ray and it was defective! Did not power up!
Now it's in New Jersey awaiting parts! Been a month now!! Obviously, quailty assurance procedures are bad if this product got out the door and doesn't work. Paid $400 for nothing!!
Digital camera Review: Works well for a first generation player Summary: 4 StarsAs a life long "early adopter", I'd have to say that this player works great for a first generation device. People complain about the firmware upgrades...but that is one great thing about these new players...at least if something new comes along the firmware CAN be upgraded.
I have only had significant problems with one disk that I own and that was "Lord of War". It played the first 3/4 of the movie just fine and then started freezing up every 1-2 minutes making the movie unwatchable. I chalk this up to the DVD being bad rather than blaming the player since it was up to date on firmware at the time. I have "Live Free and Die Hard", the disk that I have seen several complaints about, and it played flawlessly as well. I have had a few problems with rented disks from Netflix, but those had some nasty scratches on them so I wasn't surprised.
For those who wonder if it will play homemade Blu-Ray DVDs I can report that I have sucessfully created a Blu-Ray DVD with menus on a 25G Single Layer BD-RE (Rewritable) disk using the LG GGW-H20L burner and Ulead DVD Movie Factory with the HD plug in and it played with no problem whatsoever. I have not tested it with a Dual Layer (50 GIG) disk since they are still too expensive! You can also put a limited amount (about 30 mins) of HD content on a regular DVD using the Ulead software and it will play in this player as well.
Digital camera Review: A GREAT Player! Summary: 5 StarsDespite numerious compliants about this player, it works GREAT for me. I've had it since December and I'm able to play all new realeases; and I've only done one firmware update that went flawlessly. Other firmware updatres are available, but I haven't needed them yet. I've watched "Live Free or Die Hard", all the "Priates" movies...no problems at all. I'm constantly renting new releases and I've yet to find one that doesn't play on this player. It plays DVDs exceptionally well. My TV isn't fully 1080p (It's a 720p/1080i tv) but I'm still amazed at the picture quality.
My only compliant would be that load time on some discs is a bit slow. But once it's completely loaded, it runs flawlessly.
I guess it depends on whether or not you get a buggy player...but I've yet to experience any problems and I use mine all the time.
Digital camera Review: DOES NOT SUPPORT NEW 48kHz/24-bit) HD SOUND!! Summary: 3 StarsThis player is good as far as disks that work on it, but as of today, April 14, 2008, it does not support 48kHz/24-bit HD true sound that some (most?) blu-ray disks come with. So, the sound will pop out of sync with the visual. Before you buy call 800 SAMSUNG and ask if they have solved this problem by issuing a firmware (disk to put in the machine to update the harddrive) or not. If you dont you will be very disappointed playing such movies as Dewey Cox, Open Season or Thirty Days of Night all of which only have this sound track that this blu-ray player cant handle. If you do play it when it goes out of sync, and it will, several times, you have to switch away to french or some other track and then back again to get it temporarily back on track.
I think they should have taken my name and mailed a correction to me when available rather than making me follow-up.... so the customer service is not that great. But, if they fix it ill like the player at least a 4 star as otherwise its good.
