Digital camera reviews of Samsung BD-P1500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Digital camera Review: Affordable Blu-Ray that will soon be outdated
Summary: 3 Stars

As my first experience with Blu-Ray, it's hard to gauge how this player ranks with picture and sound quality. However I think it's important to rate this player independently of the Blu-Ray format, so I'll try my best.

The first thing that struck me is that this player is exceptionally slow. With research, I've come to find that Blu-Ray players in general are having problems getting "up to speed". Regardless, operating this player can be a serious game of "how much can you wait". Even something as simple as ejecting the tray from standby can be a solid 10 second delay as the player lazily wakes up. Skipping chapters becomes a chore, and switching discs turns into a lesson in tedium. I suppose this creates the atmosphere of watching Blu-Ray discs as an Event, and nothing less.

In terms of features, the BD-P1500 gives you a modicum of bells and whistles. There's a 24frames per second movie mode, and the ability to adjust your sound space. There is a USB port for viewing other media like pictures and videos, and an ethernet port to connect to the Internet. Sadly, this is only to upgrade the firmware, and does not support BD-Live functionality, making this player already somewhat obsolete. There is also no Picture in Picture or Multiple Angles features supported by the player.

If you're looking for a value player that gets you in the 1080p game and you don't want to concern yourself for any flashy features (that 60% of the time aren't worth the bother), then you'll find an adequate piece of equipment here that focuses strictly on offering an excellent picture quality, and not much else.

Digital camera Review: Amazing Blu Ray player!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This player is worth the money and provides a real picture with a 1080P HDTV. This is a must buy with Samsung LCD HDTVs. I have one and am a very satisfied customer.

Digital camera Review: Amazon makes this product better
Summary: 3 Stars

This Blu-Ray player performs well but it is a replacemnt player for one which failed after limited use in first several months of operation. Amazon replaced unit even though beyond warranty. Cheers to Amazon, less kudos to Samsung.

Digital camera Review: Audio dropped sometimes
Summary: 3 Stars

Pro: Picture quality
Cons:
1) Audio dropped, completely silent sometime, even on the optical cables.
2) Once you stopped the disc, it doesn't resume to where you left off since last time. Every time I played, I have to search for where I left off.
3) Samsung's remote control is really weak on signal, even my LCD TV has the same problem. You have to point to it directly for it to pick-up signal.

Digital camera Review: Audio sync problems are cause for concern.
Summary: 2 Stars

I looked at three players before Settling on this one
Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-Ray Disc Player

There was one from Sherwood that was cheap but they had firmware iffy stuff and was only Profile 1.1. Parents have this one since Oct 2008. Up until December it seemed fine then At the December Firmware upgrade the audio was very foul. It did not match the video. I think it was lagging behind. Also the audio dropped out completely on The Final Countdown making it unwatchable. So so upconversion quality. All in all not very impressive for a $300 player. I went with another site for the S350 sony. $50 cheaper as it was on sale.

The Samsung here has the latest firmware January 2009. But the audio still lags ever so slightly. I shall assume someone's bound to sue over that. I hate Sony, but Samsung here makes Sony look perfect.
