I'm not so sure product reviews are always genuine - this player has a lot of issues playing back DVD's. Anything other than playback tends to hang the system. Samsung admitted over the phone that they are having lots of problems with this player. They are being extremely unhelpful. I received this product as a birthday gift in November of 2008. Everything was good up until March 1, 2009 when I put in Season 3, disc 3 of the LOST series. The player could not read it. After 2-3 minutes, it ejected the disc and displayed the message, "This disc can not be played". I decided to update the firmware via Ethernet port on the back of the unit. The update was successful, but the result was the same. Bottom line- my Samsung BP-P1500 no longer plays ANY blu-ray discs! It will play standard DVD's, but no more blu-rays!
My PS3 plays all these blu-rays with no problem. As I stated, it was a gift but the price seems great. I've read about similar experiences on the Internet. Had I known, I would've put another brand on my wish list.
I filled out Samsung's warranty self service on the web. After inputting my serial number and purchase date, it stated that my product's parts are still covered under warranty...but not labor. I'm sending it back to Amazon for 50% refund. After I pay for repair labor, what if it goes bad again? If I'm going to put money towards blu-ray capability, I might as well spend it on a new player from a different manufacturer.

This was an impulse buy for me. I was purchasing a Samsung 52in LCD TV, and this was a one time special price buy if you bought the two together..well..turned out to be the best impulse buy ever. Love the quality! While I agree with other reviews..the Playstation 3 is better..for being a strait Blue Ray..it is awesome! Together with the Samsung TV..it works even better. Excellent picture, easy to use. Make sure you wait till its on sale, I got it for $199.00 on sale. It normally goes for around $250.00. It makes a lot of noise when the dvd is loading iv'e never had that with any other dvd player. Overall its a Good DVD player
