Digital camera reviews of Samsung BD-P1500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Digital camera Review: Bad News
Summary: 1 Stars

I will get right to the point.
Do not buy this product!
a) The Play Button on the remote DOES NOT WORK!
I called customer support who told me to put new batteries in remote. That fixed it for about 2 days.
If you can afford new batteries every 2 Days then go ahead and buy this unit!

b) If you cant hook this up to the internet... Then you dont want this, either.
A lot of DVDs JUST PLAIN WONT WORK at all, unless you update the firmware.

If you are OK with a product that only works sometimes.... and you dont mind getting up and pushing the play button MANUALLY on the front of the unit ALL of the time, then this works pretty good.
Nice picture, slow loading disks, though.

Spent an hour with a Samsung technician in an internet chat room. He said my Blu-ray BD-P1500 Disc Player needs repairs and gave me a repair number and set up a date and time for the Samsung technician to come to my house to repair the player. Next day (today) I had a call from the repair company to confirm the repair date and time only to find out they only repair Samsung televisions, not disc players. So much for using Samsungs internet service with uninformed employees. Repair service said I should phone Samsung instead of internet. Phoned Samsung and an overseas person toljd me I would have to ship the unit to New Jersey for repair and the cost would be $85.60 for service--parts would be covered under my one year warranty. I will buy a different brand & junk this.

Digital camera Review: Basic Blu-Ray Player for a Great Price
Summary: 5 Stars

I was able to purchase this through Amazon for $199. I feel this is a great player for the price. It works fine, plays all my blue rays fine, and was a breeze to setup with my Samsung 52" LCD. The only "complaint" I can verify is that the front display on it is VERY dim. It almost looks like it is broken. Not a big deal for me though.

Digital camera Review: Basic Blu-ray Player - nothing more, nothing less
Summary: 4 Stars

As others have stated, the unit produces an awesome blu-ray image and upconverts DVD's nicely. No skipping or popping issues. The remote is basic and the writing on it hard to read for my 40-something eyes. Backlighting on the remote would have been nice but, again, it's a basic, no-frills player.

I have upgraded the firmware 3-4 times via the USB port w/o any issues. A simple download of the firmware from Samsung's website, unzip it to a USB drive and connect. Yes, you do have to be patient during the update else it will hose up on you (duh). I would avoid upgrading the unit directly via the Internet as others have reported issues with that method. Frankly, upgrading the firmware via the Internet **should** work (and may now) but it's didn't the first time I tried.

I've owned the unit a year now and remain pleased.

Digital camera Review: Basic player

I bought this player back in Nov. of 2008. It was my first blu ray player. It is in my opinion, one of the nicest looking players out there. Its display and blue lighting are beautiful. It matches my DVR from Direct TV perfectly. The first disk I tried, "For Your Eyes Only" from Fox didn't work. Seems to be some java issue with it. Other disks play well though. Picture is good and sound is ok. A lot of disks take forever to load and the player is quite noisy while loading. Upgrading the firmware was a bit of a hassle. I would download the update from Samsung's website to a thumb drive. The thumb drive is plugged into the rear of the unit and all you do is follow on screen instructions. Thankfully I never encountered any of the problems other people have had with firmware updates. My last "straw" with the player though occurred when I tried to play "Crank2" on it last week. The problem with this disk is well documented but the bottom line is it could be played on just about every player with a bit of fiddling. Not so on the Samsung. I did eventually get the movie to play but couldn't use any of the special features. I replaced this player with a Sony S560 recently. It played "For Your Eyes Only" and "Crank2" right out of the box. I just couldn't deal with the uncertainty of the BDP-1500 any longer.
