Digital camera reviews of Samsung BD-P2500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Digital camera Review: Blu-ray the greatest
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the greatest! Not only super picture but connection to Netflix is so easy. It's works great to select movies when the Grandchildren visit.Samsung BD-P2500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Digital camera Review: Built-in Obsolescence
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this blu-ray disc player as a present for my husband. We had it one year and three months when it decided to no longer read blu-ray disks. (I find this ridiculous.) Samsung customer service was less than helpful. After reading other reviews, it is beginning to look as if this might just be a case of built-in obsolescence. Be warned. Needless to say, Samsung just lost another customer.

Digital camera Review: Buy the Sony BDP-S550 1080p Blu-ray Player instead!
Summary: 2 Stars

I have been an Amazon customer for many, many years, and have purchased hundreds of items from Amazon, finding them to almost always be the least inexpensive place to buy from, via internet or in person.

That said, this item is the first item that I have ever returned. Our whole family simply hated it. We were much happier with our previous DVD player, which was also a Samsung, but not Blu-ray.

Pro: Netflix streaming... Definitely a nice feature, allowing you to watch any movie from your Netflix Watch Instantly queue. You can even rate the movie and delete it right on your TV screen. The Netflix streaming feature is why we purchased this particular Blu-ray player, and why we kept it for four weeks before deciding it just wasn't worth it.

Cons: This is supposed to be a spectacular picture? It was not. We have a beautiful large screen HDTV, yet recently-shot Blu-ray films looked worse than they did on the regular DVD version of the same film.

Very slow to load discs. Very slow to respond to remote control commands. Very slow in general.

Doesn't even play some Blu-ray discs. Isn't that the point of the machine, to watch Blu-ray movies? The first two we tried to play were "unplayable". I've noticed other reviewers have also had this problem.

Sound disappears when viewing DVDs, both regular and Blu-ray. It would happen for 10-20 seconds at a time, several times during each disc we would play. Twice, the sound disappeared completely. Stopping and restarting the disc did not bring the sound back. Turning off the machine and reloading the disc did finally bring the sound back. I had seen this problem in other reviews but thought that when we updated the firmware (once with the disc that was included, and then a newer update when the internet was connected) that the problem would be fixed. It was not.

If you left a DVD on pause, it would put up a screensaver, as it should. But if you left it on pause too long, the machine would shut off and your place on the DVD would be lost. This problem seemed to be solved by pushing stop instead of pause.

We have since purchased the Sony BDP-S550 1080p Blu-ray Player and are extremely pleased. Beautiful picture, very responsive, can pause as long as you like, no sound issues, with other nice features as well. Well worth the one drawback of having to connect the computer to the TV with a cable to watch Netflix streaming.

Digital camera Review: Changed how we view movies
Summary: 5 Stars

With our 2-DVD netflix account and our 4 MB/second download speed through our cable provider, this system works very well and has changed how we view movies. Saturday is our family movie night and we used to mistime our Netflix queue, so we did not always have DVDs in the house that satisfied all four of us. Now we can watch things whenever we wish - except that the Netflix choices for instant download are fairly limited, and include no new releases. Other than occasional lip-synch issues, the instant download is a fantastic thing. No waiting for the mail! And the quality of the DVD playback with this unit is superb.

Digital camera Review: Completely Satisfied
Summary: 5 Stars

I have this player connected to my Samsung LN46a750 LCD TV and the picture is astounding. Upscaling of dvds is excellent. Disc load times for BR are about 15 to 25 seconds, which does not bother me. Updated the firmware that came with on disc. Very easy to perform, just requires a little patience.
