Digital camera reviews of Samsung DVD-1080P7 Up-Converting 1080p DVD Player

Digital camera Review: 1080p looks great and a Good Deal!
Summary: 5 Stars

Only had this for a couple of weeks and so far it's great.
Since I recently got a new Samsung HDTV I needed something to get me through until the Blu-Ray players mature and come down in price...
For $79 this'll do, in fact, the upscaling looks so darn good, I'm in no hurry to even get a Blu-ray, it really looks GREAT!
I have had it lock up on me once or twice so I'm not sure what's up with that? but for the price and the seamless connectivity to my Samsung tv it's awesome. Hopefully it will prove to be a worthy player for a few years.
I'd recommend this to anyone who wants the 1080p but doesn't want to pay a fortune for a Blu-ray player yet...

Digital camera Review: AMAZING picture!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a fantastic DVD Player. The picture is amazing and this is a necessity if you have an HD TV. Honestly, the picture is BETTER than it is on HBO HD! Buy this with a monster HDMI cable and your set

Digital camera Review: AWESOME PICTURE!!!! Make sure the player is in a well ventilated area, though.
Summary: 5 Stars

I had my doubts about this product after purchasing a Phillips player that claimed to upconvert to 1080p. Bull. This player, however, definitely upscales the picture. It's also great because it not only has an HDMI output, but a Optical Digital Audio (TOSLINK) output as well.

I was skeptical about the image quality upon inserting the disk and waiting for it to load, but sure enough, the opening text on Pan's Labyrinth was bright and crisp. After watching about five minutes of the film, however, I received a phone call and paused the film. I carefully turned off my television, so as not to burn in the picture.

After about thirty minutes, I returned to continuing watching. To my horror, the disk wouldn't un-pause and the picture of the player's loading screen was on the monitor instead of the film's paused image. I turned the player off and back on, but after a minute of waiting, a screen appeared stating that the disk could not be read. To be on the safe side, I tried playing the disk (even though it worked prior) in my PS2. No problem. It played fine except for the sub par picture quality.

The player itself felt rather warm and I ascertained that because I left the glass door to the entertainment system (where I keep my surround sound receiver) closed while playing a DVD, the receiver must have heated up the contents of the DVD player.

I waited a couple hours, but nothing. The next morning I tried one last time, but still nothing. I've exchanged the player for the exact same one and will be installing it tonight.

Although I should have presumed the door to my entertainment system should be kept open to allow for ventilation, I have never had a problem in the past. My PS2 has never had a problem, nor has my ten year old VHS player. It DOES state clearly in the directions to keep in a well ventilated area, (it also states not to place a flower vase filled with water on it!!!) so because of my lack of following directions, I'm giving this player a five star rating. It does exactly what it's meant to do and that's give off a gorgeous image at 1080p.

Digital camera Review: Amazing Clarity
Summary: 5 Stars

While I am waiting for the HD versus Blu-Ray issue to settle itself in the marketplace I still want to see true high definition on my 1080p TV. I also have a collection of regular DVDs. This DVD player does an incredible job of upconverting. My granddaughter loves the "Cars" animated movie. It looked spectacular. You can buy a DVD player that accomodates both HD and Blu-Ray for $800 or you can buy this Samsung DVD player for one tenth the price and immediately see what high definition is really all about.

Digital camera Review: Amazing alternative to HD DVD or BLU RAY
Summary: 5 Stars

After many months of contemplating over which high definition format to choose...HD DVD or BLU Ray...I decided to say "forget 'em both" for the meantime until this format war is won in the next couple of years. This SAMSUNG upconvert dvd player is AMAZING. I previously owned the LG Upconvert dvd player and I experienced MANY problems with it, and I had heard such great things about the SAMSUNG 1080p 7 that I thought I would throw some cash down for it.

I have a 40" Samsung LCD HDTV (720p) and the high definition upconvert looks amazing coming from this player. In the startup menu you can select the resolution that you would like to output to your television which is nice (unlike the LG which was automatically 1080i and when you tried to switch resolution it would always go back to 1080i after shutting down). Since I have a 720p tv, I selected the players resolution at 720p as well.

Some standout movies that I have viewed on this player so far are the recently released Stanley Kubrick Director's series (of which "2001" and "The Shining" look particularly great) and also "Transformers" which will blow you away in HD. You have to see it to believe it.

And for you cinematography buffs try playing Terence Malick's "Days of Heaven" (Criterion Collection) on this Samsung, your jaw will drop to the floor!

The ONLY thing I would have to say negative about this player (and it is very trivial) is that there is a slight delay in audio from the point of picking a scene selection to jumping to that scene, it's silent for about half a second and then the audio comes back in. VERY MINOR COMPLAINT though.
