Digital camera reviews of Samsung DVD-1080P7 Up-Converting 1080p DVD PlayerDigital camera Review: Broken in 5 Viewings! Summary: 1 StarsThis product is dismal. I give the vender and the product one pity star.
No return policy or info. The DVD broke in 5 uses and was far from stellar. Cheap construction, limited options and slow loading times. The up convert sounds good in theory, but you can not really see any difference especially on larger screens. Up converting is an unsuccessful attempt at alchemy! If you want HD you have to start with an HD format not a normal format and then expect to create something that is not there. All and All a poor experience that ended 90 dollars poorer and with one more square foot of land fill real estate spoken for.
Digital camera Review: Good DVD player with a few issues Summary: 4 StarsWe purchased this DVD player about a month ago (2/2008) to replace a previous generation Samsung DVD player. It is connected to our Samsung TV via HDMI. The player itself works great and the up-conversion is nice.
Samsung stumbled on the remote layout, but that's minor (previous generation remote layout made more sense and was less cumbersome).
The biggest beef is the power switch on the front of the player. When the player is "OFF" there is a barely noticeable red standby light, but when the player is "ON", there is a BRIGHT blue light surrounding the button. This is very annoying in a dark room while watching a movie so the player had to be moved to a non-visible spot (stored behind a closed door - have to do some maneuvering to pause movies...). It may just be my player because the previous gen player had the blue light when the player was off, but when powered on, the light was gone. TV is the same way (no blue light around power button when on)
All in all, a good player that we hope to have for a few years while we wait for Blu-Ray prices to drop.
Digital camera Review: Bought it for the EZ View feature Summary: 4 StarsMy last Samsung (4 years old and still working) has EZ View which is a great feature to get the picture to fit the screen, so I got this one after two bad Toshiba models. It's paired up with a 37" Samsung HD TV,so it shares remotes. So far it works as expected hooked up via HDMI. As for Samsung HDTV's, I think they are great only if you can live with an inferior cable/or non HD picture.
Digital camera Review: Doesn't work for me Summary: 2 StarsI bought this after reading some favorable reviews and that it had optical audio output. However after playing about five discs it stopped working. It now just says no disc every time I load any type of disc. The image was nice while it worked, skipping was a problem. I no longer have the receipt, since I bought it from circuit city. However if you read the many reviews on the internet and scroll through them you will see mine is a common problem.
I also own the philips 1080p up-converting DVD player and that one works flawlessly, except it has not optical audio output.
Warranty may be great and all but I also want something that works with no hassle. Stay away from this one as you may get one of the lemons. Get the philips 1080p up-converting instead.
Digital camera Review: Samsung DVD-1080P7 Summary: 5 StarsI am very happy with this upconverting DVD player. The image quality from standard DVDs is very good on my Samsung HDTV.
