I was able to purchase this model for $20 less through a competitor's website, and for the price I paid, it is worth it. I have a Toshiba 720p 42" plasma, and have the DVD player connected through the HDMI cable. The first DVD I tried was "The Incredibles" and it looked amazing. I have the player set to output at 720p, and there is no graininess or anything like that. I haven't experienced any "slow to respond remote control to player" problems like other people say they have. While I am waiting for the HD versus Blu-Ray issue to settle itself in the marketplace I still want to see true high definition on my 1080p TV. I also have a collection of regular DVDs. This DVD player does an incredible job of upconverting. My granddaughter loves the "Cars" animated movie. It looked spectacular. You can buy a DVD player that accomodates both HD and Blu-Ray for $800 or you can buy this Samsung DVD player for one tenth the price and immediately see what high definition is really all about.Digital camera Review: Samsung 1080P DVD player

I purchased this unit because I have a Samsung 1080P hdtv that recognizes any Samsung anynet device. This unit connects with one HDMI cable and the TV takes over from there! TV remote runs the unit and the TV detects and finds the signal... Works great and is very inexpensive.. I am awating the HD - Bluray battle to mature and the Samsung dual players prices to come down so this is a nice interim solution. I would reccomend Amazon and this unit for the price. The picture quality is OK with older DVDs, likely as good as any other similar upconverting uint....

This dvd player works just fine on my Samsung HDTV and all my regular dvd's look very clear and crisp. The only problem is that this player does not play HDDVD's. So buyer beware that although this does make your normal dvd's look better it does not play HDDVD's.
