Digital camera reviews of Samsung HL61A750 61-Inch 1080p LED Powered DLP HDTVDigital camera Review: BEWARE Buying Samsung 61" DLP Summary: 1 Stars
We bought our Samsung 61" DLP just over 2 years ago. Right after we bought it a shadow appeared down the left hand side of the picture. We called Samsung and they came out to fix part of our "light tunnel" which had partially fallen. Just two weeks ago, it happened again. This time the shadow got bigger (taking up 1/3 of the screen) over the course of a couple of days then we heard a 'pop' sound and the whole screen went black. Of course we're past the two year warranty now and are being told this is a KNOWN - YES KNOWN - issue with Samsung DLP where the light tunnel collapses. Costs to fix range from $750 to $1200. Once again this is a KNOWN issue and Samsung offers absolutely NOTHING even though it is a widespread manufacturing issue. Again our set is only two years old.
Buy at your own risk. I STRONGLY recommend looking up this model or Samsung DLP Light Tunnel or Shadow on google before you plunk down any money. We're probably just going to buy a new set. And it will NOT be a Samsung.
Update: So we've decided to try calling Samsung again to see if we can get any service/info. In the mean time I've found that there is already a class action lawsuit related to this problem with Samsung: samsungtvshadowclassaction.com/main/home.sfx
Digital camera Review: BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY Summary: 3 Stars
Exactly 16 months ago, we bought the 56" model. The warranty ended last month. The TV just went dead---$1200 for a new LED panel! The service man said that these TV's (not just Samsung) are disposable so you will buy another in several years. Did really like it but it's gone now!
UPDATE: October 27,2008 - Our TV repairman talked Samsung into sending a new LED board at no charge. After a month, it arrived defective and could not be installed. Samsung may replace the TV itself, but that model apparently is not available and we are waiting to hear from them.
Digital camera Review: Beautiful picture Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this TV at the Samsung display center in the Time Warner Building in NYC and was blown away by the picture. Beautiful color, crisp detail, great styling, and a price far less than comparable LCD and plasma sets. A few weeks later I bought one and have not been disappointed.
Just plug it into your cable box, and voila, you are done! No need to auto program and search for channels. There are ample inputs and outputs for all kinds of components, including a computer ( I like viewing my photos on the set). With a surround sound system (I bought the HTZ515 by Samsung, which matches the set) you will think you are at the movies.
I have not experienced any of the problems mentioned in the negative reviews.
For the price this is an incredible TV.
Digital camera Review: Beautiful picture and a great bargain for the size of television you get Summary: 4 Stars
To start with, this tv was ready to go right out of the box. Although I had to wait for a line run to the tv from my satellite provider, when it was completed, the setup for the Samsung was extremely easy. The picture is beautiful. The color accuracy is great. Blacks are very close to "black". I watch a lot of sports, so I have not noticed any color difference in uniforms and especially on golf greens. I also noticed that while flesh tones are slightly redder than normal, it is still extremely close to actual skin pigmentation. I haven't altered the settings too much. The settings proposed on the forums basically replicate the ones that are default settings. Is it the best picture that I have ever seen? That would probably be a no since I think that my Panasonic 1080p plasma television is better. But shouldn't the 61A750 win since the plasma was $1200 more than the Samsung for a television that is 11" smaller? As far as cost versus size, this television compares to no others on the market. The 7 series is the way to go. My parents have already replaced their lamp after 3 years on their 4 series DLP. This will not require such a repair cost. I have been reading reveiws on the Samsung DLP line for over 5 years. The best part of their series has been consistency. While some reviewers have issues, most do not. I didn't hear too many problems with this television and I got an amazing deal here on Amazon. By the way, Amazon's delivery service was awesome if anyone is leary about that. The tv was delivered within 5 business days to the basement, unboxed, and placed on our tv stand.
I am not going to review the remote, because how many people actually use this anymore with cable/satellite provider's remote being your remote that turns the tv on/off and control volume. I also cannot review the Samsung's audio. I have a home theater system and I have turned the tv speakers off completely. I recommend not buying a tv with audio as your primary concern. If it is your concern, buy a cheap home theater system, it will be well worth your money. As you will read, most people give this tv a bad rating due to its audio capability. The thing is, almost every tv out there has a horrible audio system with their tv. The select few that don't, you end up paying a lot more money for the tv. Shouldn't you just spend that extra money on a home theater system then? I have not tested the 1080p part just yet. My goal is to buy a second PS3 for the blu-ray player for this tv. I am assuming that the picture will be flawless, since it is said that a tv 50" or larger will actually show the picture differences beween 720p and 1080p televisions.
In summary, if you are looking for a very large television, don't pass this one up. I wanted a huge tv for my "man cave", and this fit the bill better than any other as far as price. Why pay $3k more for a LCD when you can get a comparative tv for the price of this one? I will note that to achieve the "wow" factor for the picture, I set the entertainment mode to "Sports". I noticed that the colors, while extremely accurate, jumped off the screen when set to this setting. I am extremely happy with this tv, and am extremely excited that I made the decision to purchase this exact tv.
Digital camera Review: Believe The Hype!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I'd been kicking around the idea of upgrading to more current HD technology for awhile, should the right deal come along. Well, I finally pulled the trigger on this set after reading all of the stellar reviews. It had all of the features that mattered to me.....1080p, large screen size, and 120hz processing just to name a few. A great price on a new open-box unit from Warehouse Deals was all I needed to take the bait. I bought it based on my familiarity with all of the technology currently available, and without ever laying eyes on it in a store. After having this set only about 5 hours now, I can tell you that all of the great reviews you've been reading are true. This unit is replacing a 5-year-old first generation Sony 60" set, which I always considered to have a top-notch picture. How big is the difference? Remember what it was like when you first saw a real HD picture? Well, that's the difference between this set and my older Sony. Shocking, jaw-dropping, breathtaking, awesome, fantastic......there aren't enough superlatives to describe the picture quality. It really is like seeing another level of HD. Black levels are indeed incredible.....very inky with no noise (at least none that my untrained eyes can see). Now I know what dark scenes in movies are supposed to look like! While I've ordered many things from Amazon, this was the first time I've ordered anything like this.....was always hesitant because I was afraid of damage to something so seemingly fragile and advanced. Well, that too went off without a hitch. I received it in about a week in perfect condition. The pilot delivery guys were friendly, and were in and out in less than 15 minutes. Kudos to Amazon for having the best price and great service. They make things WAY too convenient! Anyway, add me to the long list of customers who think this set is by far the best value available in an HD television. Unless you see an update to this review in the future, rest easy knowing that all is well in my HD heaven!
Couldn't help but post an update! Needless to say, I am still extremely pleased with this set. Long story short, I ordered a second one for our bedroom only 3 days after receiving the first one. Our house has large rooms, and after comparing the picture of this set to the 50" Hitachi that was in our bedroom (which wasn't bad by the way), it was a no-brainer. I will echo once more what many others have said about it. Dollar for dollar, it offers the most bang for your buck by far. Period. End of story. Does it offer the best HD picture available? Probably not. Is it perfect? Probably not. Is it perfect for me? Yes, without a doubt. Big, intuitive, attractive, and feature-packed. Oh, and did I mention the picture? If there's a set out there with a better picture, I don't need it. I'm not rich and don't have thousands of dollars to spend on a single HD set. I got 2 of these for less than 2700 delivered. We're finishing our basement and the 67" is on the list for it, provided the supply holds out until I can afford it. I'm looking at not much over 4k for 3 60+ inch top-quality sets (an incredible deal in my book) that look as though they'll stay current with advancing technology and last many, many years. So if you're still on the fence, jump on over and come play with those of us who already know what you soon will.....that this set is an incredible value for the money and the best out there at present. Long live Amazon!!!
