Digital camera reviews of Samsung LN32A450 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTVDigital camera Review: 'Robot audio' problem on HD channels Summary: 1 Stars
Do not buy this LCD TV if you do NOT intend on connecting it through an HD box!
I purchased a Samsung LN32A450 late Nov '08 and connected to my cable company (Comcast) via coax cable (not through an HD box). Non-HD channels are fine, but when viewing HD channels audio will distort (sounds like a robot talking) for several seconds at a time. It happens randomly, probably 5-6 times an hour, and is very aggravating when it does.
Samsung has not addressed this problem. When you call their service line they don't even know what you are talking about. But check out the Samsung Forum on CNET -lots of posts from frustrated purchasers since July '08. And Samsung monitors that forum!
Replacing the audio board solves the problem, but only so long as power to the set remains on. Any type of power outage to your home (or, if your set is connected to a power strip and you turn the power strip off) will cause the 'robot' audio to return. Then you've got to have the audio board replaced again.
This only happens with a direct cable connection on HD channels. If you use an HD box or are watching non-HD channels the problem does not appear.
I don't know of any other brand that has this problem. My Sony works fine. And I don't watch enough TV to pay extra each month for an HD box. Too bad, I really like this Samsung -great picture, great price, bad audio problem.
Summary of Samsung LN32A450 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTVA sleek design with hidden speakers keep Samsung's Series 4 large flatpanel HDTVs one of the best 720p HD options around. Upgrades over last year's models include a 6ms response rate that's faster than many more expensive 1080p models for smooth motion even with fast-moving sports and action movies, and a higher dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000:1 (up from 8,000:1 last year) for deep blacks and crisp lines.
