Digital camera reviews of Samsung LNT4661F 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTVDigital camera Review: BUY THIS TV!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I don't usually write Amazon reviews, but in researching LCD TVs, I found the reviews so helpful that I felt compelled to contribute. If you are searching for a high-quality LCD TV, look no further: it doesn't get any better than Samsung. I work in IT, and every fellow geek whom I surveyed recommended a Samsung LCD or DLP. Since DLP won't fit in the space available in our bungalow's living room, we went with LCD.
Review after review on Amazon and CNet rank the LNT4661F and the LNT4555F as best in class. After looking at the sets side by side with LG, Sharp, and Sony models in local stores, the Samsung's superiority became apparent. I quickly eliminated other brands from consideration and focused on the Samsung LNT4661F vs. LNT4665F. If you're in a quandry over which is best, here's what I found:
1) The LNT4665F does has a marginally better picture and contrast ratio than the LNT4661F. I reviewed the sets side by side and noticed the biggest difference during very dark scenes. The LNT4665F handles those slightly better than the LNT4661, but the LNT4661 still looked better than any other LCD nearby.
2) The shiny screen on the LNT4665 will DEFINITELY create glare issues in any room where you cannot control direct or ambient light. The set I looked at in Circuit City had no problems with glare, but it was located in a home-theater type viewing room. The set at Best Buy was in an area facing windows and overhead light, and the glare was very noticeable. As my living room gets light from a ceiling fixture, two lamps, and three windows, I feel that I made the right choice in going with the LNT4661F given its matte screen.
3) Eagle Global Logistics was a PAIN regarding delivery. Were shipping not free, I would have been REALLY ticked. Basically, they would only deliver the set on Tuesdays or Thursdays, which is hard to accommodate if you work full-time and those are your busiest days of the week. I went to the warehouse to pick up the unit and found the warehouse staff to be professional. The packaging was compact considering the size of the item, and it fit easily into a friend's Ford Escape.
4) You can't beat the LNT4661F for the price. Circuit City and Best Buy were both around $800 more than Amazon when sales tax was factored in. Interestingly, both Circuit City and Best Buy were charging $2495 for the LNT4665F and $2595 for the LNT4661F, despite the LNT4665F being the "lower" model.
Overall, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. The TV looks AWESOME, and we've had tons of fun watching colorful movies like Finding Nemo, PBS in hi-def, Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings movies, etc. BUY THIS TV: YOU WON'T BE SORRY!
Digital camera Review: Bad power supply after 2 years of use Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased the Samsung LN-T4661F from Amazon in September 2007. Delivery and setup were fine. The picture (once it is running) is still great. I bought the unit because it is supposed to be best at up converting standard DVDs (I have lots of DVD movies). About six months ago, the unit began to have a delayed start. First about 30 seconds, now about 90 seconds. Sometimes with a slight rose tinted background. Turning the set off and back on clears the rose background. Searching on-line I have found this model has numerous bad power supplies (hence causing slow turn on and many times for others sudden turn offs or no power at all). I got on Samsung's site last night and did troubleshooting and a request for a service call (out of warranty) but the lengthy request was rejected at the end and I was taken to the trouble shooting screen as a response. Bad response to a bad problem. one star is too high for durability. I had a ten year old Hitachi projection TV I gave to my step son when we got the Samsung. The Hitachi is still running with no service calls ever.
Digital camera Review: Beautiful Addition Summary: 5 Stars
Installed the TV on the wall in our family room in a little entertainment nook just perfect for this size LCD TV. Great viewing from anywhere in the room. We elevated it slightly to make it more Wii Sports friendly. Color/clarity and black levels are perfect. The matte screen provides a glare/reflection free experience even with every light in the room on. I've cycled through the various presets for the video settings and found one that worked great for the placement no bright windows near by. Easy setup and beautiful picture make this a great choice.
Digital camera Review: Beautiful HD picture, when you can even see it... Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered this TV on a Monday and received it that Friday. I suppose I live close to a distribution center since I've read many reviews and most seemed to take longer to deliver. My husband and I were very anxious to hook it up (we'd been watching a 19" CRT since our 53" Panasonic rear projection HDTV blew up, but not literally,a while back) and fiddle with the settings. At first I was extremely disappointed, but I think I was just looking at it too closely. You really need to give yourself 10 feet to see the picture at its best. Our living room is large, and we have it set up perfectly, so this isn't a problem. The problem we have with it is that the picture shut off after the first ten minutes. We unplugged it for a few minutes, plugged it back in, and it was back on. My husband called Samsung, they told us to call back after the weekend, so we did, and now we have someone coming out this week. The picture has blacked out three times in the four days we've had this television. It really is a pain, but hopefully we'll be able to get it fixed. However, when it works, it's great.
You don't want to watch standard definition on this set, trust me. It looks...acceptable. HD is awesome. I don't have enough HD channels! The constant resizing of the screen is a bit annoying. Seriously, why can't everything just be the same dang size? I'm not a technical person, so don't try to explain it to me. Viewing in 4:3 mode produces a twinkly-flashy line on the top of the screen, so I cannot view anything in 4:3 mode because that will drive me crazy.
I purchased an upconverting DVD player that is also a must-have while you wait for prices to drop on the Blu Ray. I cannot stop watching movies on this TV.
Oh, another con: the black frame and stand is a DUST MAGNET. It comes with a cleaning cloth, but I use a lint-free cloth with a bit of water, and that works just fine for me.
Digital camera Review: Beautiful Picture Summary: 5 Stars
I am very pleased with this television. I was unsure about having an item this large and expensive delivered but it was quick and without a hitch. I had ordered other items from Amazon in the past and was satisfied, no exception here.
