Digital camera reviews of SanDisk 2 GB Cruzer Micro ( SDCZ6-2048-A10, Retail Package)

Digital camera Review: A Mac User
Summary: 4 Stars

I should have read the reviews here first but I saw the price and bought the Sandisk Cruzer only because I have had good experiences with other Sandisk products. First I am on an Intel iMac and the first thing is a CD image loads on the desktop as well as the USB Flash drive. The flash drive comes installed with "U3" no idea what it is because it doesn't work on Mac OSX. I ran disk utilities to erase, the Flash drive itself was erased but the CD image still stays. Even after reformatting with 1 Partition the CD image stays.

Mac users need to take this flash drive to a PC and uninstal the U3 software to get rid of the pesky and uneeded software. (This gets rid of the CDimage.) You need to again run disk utility and erase on a Mac to use. After this drawn out process, the drive operates fine. Funny heh? Sandisk obviously got sold on this idea by U3. Again I have no idea what this software does as Macs can't run it. But does a flash drive need any complicated software?

There are other brands of flash drives with the U3 software on them. So besure to look for the information. Most of the retail packaging has it written on them. But you will be hard pressed to see any indication online.

Again, Sandisk has had a good reputation of memory cards, but if they start this U3 nonsense on memory cards they will lose me as a faithful customer. After the reformatting, and about two weeks worth of use the drive works without any problems.

Cheers.

Digital camera Review: AVOID U3 ... BE WARNED
Summary: 1 Stars

The U3 software is forced on you by trickery and cunning on the part of SanDisk, who formed U3.
Please avoid any products with U3 software to send a message that we don't want this. Make it fail and they will give up on it.

Digital camera Review: Annoying and cumbersome
Summary: 1 Stars

My dad bought me the Sandisk 2GB cruzer micro to send me some of my backed up files from another computer. When I put it into my USB port, it took forever to open, and this stupid application called "U3" popped up. Everytime I tried go "back" to "My Computer," it kept crashing my system. I have Windows XP. I did find a "U3 Launchpad Removal Tool" on the Sandisk website, but even after it uninstalled this program, my computer continued to crash and freeze until I restarted.

Now, when I plug in the flash drive, it seems to work fine without disrupting my system. I don't know how reliable this is, since I've only just gotten it today. It has an annoyingly huge bright orange light that blinks while it is working, and stays on otherwise. I'm also not a huge fan of the retractable USB plug.

I noticed that the drive got really hot when I just copied some data onto it. I wonder the metal one has better heat dissipation, as I have the black plastic one. Overall, I'm tempted to sell this one, as it's caused me more trouble than I desired in the last half hour that I've had it.

Digital camera Review: Another Great SanDisk UBS Drive
Summary: 5 Stars

Added another Excellent 2GB Sandisk USB flash drive to my growing collection. Out of all of the other branded drives I already own my Sandisks are my favorite for repeatedly transfering files back and forth from My PC's at Home and Work. There is no stupid cap that is only going to get lost anyway. The port tucks right into the case out of harms way. I give them the occasional reformat after several data transfers to keep them fresh. Have never had a single problem with them. I don't use the included various software so, look for a different review if that is a concern before purchase. Like all USB thumb drives they can get a little warm after several large data transfers in a row. Though they get warm I have never had a data error. Unlike some other ones I own. Cheap ones can be OK for long term storage of files or music or photos etc. But if you need a reliable thumb drive for daily data transfer, then Sandisk is the best way to go. And a Great price from Amazon as always. BOOOYAH!!

Digital camera Review: Another User dissatisfied with U3
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this item elsewhere without knowing anything about U3 -- that's what I get for not reading the reviews here first. I can't use U3 at work because my employer has strict controls on the PCs. And I can't use it at home because I have a Mac. For the same reasons, I can't even run the d*!*@$ software SanDisk offers to remove U3. I returned the drive, and I won't buy another SanDisk product with U3 installed.
