Digital camera reviews of SanDisk 2 GB Cruzer Micro ( SDCZ6-2048-A10, Retail Package)

Digital camera Review: Disaster
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this after I lost my old usb which I loved. I have the 4gb one, and I found that this one asks you if you would like to install the U3 crap, which I denied cause it has no purpose but to take up more space. The slider is difficult, and once out, it sits at an angle and is a pain for me to get into my usb port. now comes the devastation. I wrote a 6 page term paper, a 14 page review packet, and a powerpoint. I loaded all of my projects onto my sandisk as I do with all of my school things. I opened them later, on my same computer, and they are all gone. I tried for hours to recover them. Only part of the powerpoint remained. Whenever I opened them it asked me what version I wanted to read the script with, and no matter what option I tried it gave me odd symbols and letters. I have had about four usb drives, and this is the first, and last, sandisk I will ever purchase.

Digital camera Review: Don't get this if you use a Mac
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased the Cruzer 2gb but it's a disappointment. If you use a Mac you end up with 2 volumes on your desktop, one that you can use and the other a CD icon (e.g. Read Only file system). While you can reformat the drive you can not do anything about the included CD volume (aka U3) and every time you want to eject the damm thing you have to eject 2 volumes. I just want a simple high capacity device for moving files around and this is hugely inconvenient. It's going back to office depot tomorrow.

Digital camera Review: Don't panic! This is a great value!
Summary: 5 Stars

Stop panicking! If you don't want ANY removable media to run---not just flash drives, but CDs, DVDs, floppies, anything---just hold Shift after you've inserted it. The complainers here obviously didn't know about this standard Windows shortcut.

Yes, I question SanDisk's decision to include auto-running "portable desktop" functionality by default. Obviously, though, they thought they were helping people, offering them something of value at no extra charge.

If you don't EVER want the Cruzer's auto-run functionality, just download SanDisk's U3 Launchpad Removal Tool from their website and run it. Voila---you have a blank USB drive to use however you wish. (You can Google "U3 Launchpad Removal Tool" to quickly find the tool's webpage.)

If you're really geeky, you can even use a repartitioning tool to reclaim the Cruzer's tiny (~5MB) system partition (which SanDisk adds to make Windows think it's CD and enable AutoPlay).

I think the Cruzer's an outstanding value. When I was in L.A. this week, I couldn't pass up this name-brand, 2-GB flash drive, on sale at Staples for $25! I suspect the price has been driven down so low because so many people have complained about the built-in (and, as I've pointed out, optional) software. If so, the rest of us win. It's a terrific deal.

By the way, AutoPlay is one of the first things I turn off after installing XP. If you're tired of holding Shift each time you insert removable media, get Microsoft's free TweakUI utility from their website---which, among many other things, lets you activate/deactivate AutoPlay on all of your removable drives. Why does it take extra software to do something so basic? No doubt Microsoft worried that people would turn off AutoPlay, then forget how to open a file window to run whatever they wanted to. But we're not that helpless, are we? (All together: "No!")

Digital camera Review: Dont buy if your going to be using it on a mac
Summary: 1 Stars

Dont buy this if your plan on using it with a mac. The u3 software doesnt even works on a mac but it will pop up every time you plug the drive in. Their isnt any easy way of removing it from the drive either. Going to the u3 site is a waste of time. After asking you why you want to remove the u3 software (with an available answer of "im using a mac") you still have to run the uninstall software on a pc. A little annoying just to use a flash drive.

Digital camera Review: EXCELENTE
Summary: 5 Stars

Like many i saw all reviews before buying these U3 device, i have bought 11 of these, they work perfect so far, for those that don't like the u3 just format the device. For me the U3 is the best, at the office i can't install software even so they are free, so with U3 i can have many helpfull tools. I really recommend it.
