Digital camera reviews of SanDisk 2 GB Cruzer Micro ( SDCZ6-2048-A10, Retail Package)Digital camera Review: GOOD ENOUGH Summary: 4 Stars
cruzer micro is pretty awesome. the only problem i have with it is the U3 which pops up everytime you plug it in. however, the flash drive works well and looks sleek and with the slider, it protects it from breaking.
Digital camera Review: Getting cheaper with each new version Summary: 2 Stars
This is the 3rd Sandisk USB drive I've owned (256MB and 1GB being the other two). With each new device, they've cut corners and made it more and more cheaply. Which is sad, because they used to have solid devices.
My 256MB model was constructed of metal with a permanent clear plastic housing that really gave it a solid feel. Most importantly, the loop through which you attach a key chain was also metal and molded into the device itself.
With the 1GB model, they removed the permanent plastic housing in favor of a removable rubberized sleeve. Not an improvement to be sure, but it worked okay until the rubber sleeves lost their grip and slid off, to be lost forever. The key chain loop was also plastic and fused onto the metal body.
The 2GB model has lost even more sturdiness. There is no longer a cap -- the USB socket retracts into the device. This can be good or bad depending on your viewpoint. The good is that you no longer have a cap to lose (never a problem for me anyway). The bad is that there is no cap to protect the USB socket from dirt and dust accumulation from sitting in pockets and such.
Unlike the previous models, this one is completely plastic and feels very cheaply made. The key chain loop is a flimsy little metal ring attached to one end -- one good tug and your USB drive will be quickly separated from the rest of your key chain and lost. I went so far as to remove it altogether and replace it with a sturdier ring.
I don't see the retractable design as an improvement, frankly. In fact, it adds to the overall length of the device, since it must now house the USB socket and the mechanism to retract it. It is easily 10% longer than my previous models.
Finally, I removed the U3 software because I had no use for it. I just wanted a backup storage device to shuttle files between computers in different locations (work, school, home). Sandisk should have offered the U3 software as an option that the user installs themselves if so desired, rather than forcing it upon us.
I had trouble removing the U3 software as well, and had to call Sandisk technical support. I must admit they answered fairly quickly and walked me through the proper uninstall procedure. Apparently my problem was that I have a USB hub attached to my PC (doesn't everyone?), which confuses the device and makes it difficult to uninstall the U3 software. Another bad oversight by Sandisk.
The device works fine now, and seems fairly speedy. But I don't think I'll be buying any more flimsy plastic USB drives in the future. Better off spending a little extra and getting a solid build like the Titanium drive (also from Sandisk).
Digital camera Review: Good Product but we don't know what this U3 this... Summary: 2 Stars
Everything looks good. Except this U3. I wish someone can explain, in simpler terms what in the world it does to an average consumer.
It is like the sales rep in Circuit city rep saying " It has got 120Hz and a video processor blah blah"....all fine but what in the world does that bring to me? So sales reps or anyone doesn't seem to understand this simple question!
Digital camera Review: Good memory, too much bling Summary: 4 Stars
This is not your typical plug-it-in and click save. This product has way more programming on it than the usual user needs, like skype, etc. There's even a superfluous "intro" you have to go through before using the thing. Seems to work ok for the moment, though. Who knows? Maybe I'll end up using the skype.
Digital camera Review: Good until you get the U3 off of the drive. Summary: 4 Stars
There was nothing wrong with the drive at all. It was just when I tried using it for my laptop it froze my laptop. However when I used the drive for my desktop which is two years older than my laptop, ironically it worked fine. So I just ended up taking U3 off of this and now it works fine. I am not so sure if that the U3 is the same as the memorex drives, but I used one of those drives on my laptop before and it worked fine.
I think U3 is pretty much useless. If you are going to use programs that are not going to be on the compter then it would be fine for you. But I think things should be simple and flash drives should only be used to store fiels not run programs.
Sandisk has an easy removal tool unlike some of the other users said it was hard to use... One word of advice: If you remove the U3, then do a reformat on the drive in order to remove the 40 mb that was still leftover from the U3 program.
I gave it 4 out of 5 stars becasue when you remove the U3 its a nice little drive.
