Digital camera reviews of SanDisk 4 GB Memory Stick PRO Duo Flash Memory Card SDMSPD-4096-A11Digital camera Review: Did not include adapter Summary: 3 Stars
The package did not include the memory stick adapter as stated in the product description at the time. I kept it since I did not have time to return it and buy another one some place else.
I did not have any other issues with the memory stick.
Digital camera Review: Does the job for less Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this memory stick for my sony ericsson phone, and while i wasn't sure if i needed that much memory in my phone, it actually came in handy for photo taking and music storage. I never have to worry about having enough memory, which is great. The product came with an adapter for card readers, which normally don't receive the smaller pro duo.
Digital camera Review: Does the job, but I still kind of hate Sony. Summary: 3 Stars
PROS: Holds a huge amount of data, but with the 13MP camera I bought it for, actually fills up quickly!
CONS: I hate how Sony has changed the shape: will not fit very well in old MS card readers (see Summary.)
FINAL VERDICT: If you need a Memory Stick, you really have no choice. SanDisk does a great job, you can't go wrong. Go ahead and get this one.
SUMMARY: Be careful when trying to put this in a standard Memory Stick card reader, it is really small and you will need a team of spelunkers to get it out.
RANT: The original Memory Stick (MS), for those that remember, was a long rectangular shape. Because of this oblong shape, every memory card mfg who wanted to make a reader for it and the other, perfectly fine, NAND flash cards like SD, and Compact Flash, had to design their readers with a goofy shape to accommodate Sony's MS. And Sony, being a large and arrogant company, made MS (and later MS Pro) the standard in all of their products, which were compatible with no other standard NAND card. Even though the shape of the chip resulted in a stupendously criminal waste of space, you were forced to by MS if you bought a Sony product that needed external memory. And then what? Sony ate its hat and made the MS smaller, down to a reasonable size. Thus, leaving everyone with these older MS, SD and Compact Flash multi-card readers which were BUILT IN their desktops or laptops high and dry when it came to Sony's pretty new design. </Rant>
NOTE: If you manage to get the MS into an old card reader, it WILL work (I've done this) but now that it is shorter, it is super-hard to get out because the stick is completely buried in the reader. It is doable, use a paper clip and some patience, or go out and buy some extra card reader you shouldn't need. While you're at it, thank Sony for me.
Digital camera Review: Does what it's supposed to do Summary: 5 Stars
Product works as it should. Had to format it for my PSP-slim but it holds a lot of data. It is noticeably slower with loading times than the 1GB memory stick was, but it is really not that bad and I got used to it pretty quickly. I have purchased Sandisk memory sticks in the past for use with digital cameras, and never had any trouble with them. They are just as good as the Sony branded ones and cost a lot less. Please note that this particular packaging does not include the memory stick adapter (which I already had from another memory stick and did not need) but it did come with a little protective case.
