Digital camera reviews of SanDisk ImageMate 12-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader SDDR-89-A15Digital camera Review: Card reader Summary: 4 Stars
This card reader has so far been reliable and hasn't has any problems, although it is VERY slow with RAW images, esp. compared with the lexar.
Digital camera Review: Compact and easy to use Summary: 5 Stars
When I bought this, I didn't do any research. I just went out and picked it up. The first thing I liked was how compact it was. You can hide it anywhere on your desk. Also, the tranfer mate is great to use. You just push the button and the wizard comes up asking you what you want to transfer. Excellant product!!
Digital camera Review: Compare with other USB 2.0 readers. Summary: 5 Stars
I have this card reader from SanDisk and another card reader from an unknown brand. Both of them are USB 2.0.
I tested the 2 card readers with a 6GB Hitachi Microdrive with more than 3GB of photos taken with Canon EOS 350D. Each photo is in Large size (8MP) and fine quality and result in an average of 3.5MB each. These photos are saved in different folders, each containing 100 photos by the camera automatically.
I first open a folder with the Sandisk reader. It does not require any waiting time to show all photos in preview mode in Windows XP. However, for another cheaper card reader, it takes about 5 min to do the same job. (My computer: AMD 4400+, 512MBx2 DDR RAM, nVidia 7800GT, ASUS A8N SLI motherboard)
Besides, this Sandisk one has constant drives. You always access your CF card in, say, E:. However, the drive changes everytime when you plug onto your computer when you are using card reader from other brands.
Conclusion: Sandisk is much faster than other brands.
What kind of people will need to buy this Sandisk one?
Professionals (stable transfer), photographers (fast), forgetful people (everytime same drive name), etc.
Last but not least, do not remove your media when the green LED is blicking (reading/writing data from/into your media). It is likely to damage ur media and info stored in it.
Digital camera Review: Computer crash Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this product because of the multiple good reviews. Though it should have been able to have been installed on my Windows 98 second edition, my attempt at installing the software crashed the computer. Dell was able to get it running after a very lengthy service call. They suggested that I get the Sandisk support group to guide me through the installation process but the same thing happened again. Neither Sandisk nor Dell has been able to get my computer running again except in Safe Mode. I have returned the product to Amazon and have purchased a new computer. Whether the problem was my aging operating system or the product I do not know, but I certainly won't risk this happening again. I'd have to rate this 0 stars, but this selection is not available.
Digital camera Review: Couldn't be easier. Summary: 5 Stars
Couldn't get much easier than this.
Unpacked it, plugged it in and plugged my cards in.
No need to install any software or drivers.
It automatically creates logical drives for you. That is, you'll see new drives (like M. N, O, P). It is a bit annoying trying to figure what drive maps to what cards, but you'll get used to it quickly and it's not like it's a huge annoyance. You can also just go in and rename the drives.
You'll mainly use this to transfer files from cards to your computer (or network), but you can also use this to transfer files from a card to another one.
It takes more space than I would like, so I left this connected to my server and shared all the drives. When I need to access a card on my laptop, I simply access these shared drives.
