Digital camera reviews of SanDisk SDMX2-1024 Sansa e140 1 GB Digital Audio Player with SD Expansion SlotDigital camera Review: Unreliable...Stay away Summary: 1 StarsI bought this item because I was looking for a low-cost, high capacity, Flash-type mp3 player with an expansion slot. I wanted a flash type so I could use it for other activities with minimal worry about damaging the player's moving parts. I had heard a lot of the Rio flash-players would turn into coasters, but nothing but good reviews about SanDisk players.
Unfortunately, the first unit died after 3 months. SanDisk replaced it. However, the protective cover they sent with the replacement unit was filthy; obviously a refurbished unit. Three months later (today in fact) the replacement unit died. I have an RMA request submitted but have not heard back from SanDisk yet.
When it operates, it's great. The only other issues I have with it deal with the Favorites folder. The documentation is very poor about how to add songs to the favorites group (navigate to the song and hold down the center button). Additionally, the favorites folder only has capacity for 30 songs.
Bottom line, if you are looking for a reliable piece of electronic gear, keep looking. If you want to pay less and are willing to play the RMA game, then this unit may be for you.
Digital camera Review: Good player with expandible memory Summary: 4 StarsI bought this player mainly because I did not want to be stuck with the small built in memory of the others. I already have a Creative ZEN Nomad with 60GB disk for many years where I carry ALL my music. However, I wanted to have something really small and solid state that I could take around all the time without risking hard disk damage. Having a spare 2GB SD card from my Canon camera, the Sansa E140 was the perfect choice. I am pretty satisfied with it, though I agree there is room for improvement.
Pros: SD slot for up to 2GB cards (guess this limit may be increased with new firmwares).
Good sound quality
Easy of use
FM radio
Good earphones compared to other players of similar price.
low price
good battery life (though shorter when using SD cards)
Cons: Does not have playlists.
Slow start (33sec when using a 2GB card and a total of 400 tracks)
Does not remember track position after power cycle.
For me, the most disappointing problem was the lack of playlists. However, it can be "cheated" using the mp3 tags. Since the player sorts music by mp3 tags, to enable a collection of 170 songs I have as a selected playlist, I have set the tag of year to 2010 of all of them before copying them to the player. When I want to play them as a playlist, I just set the player to play the 2010 year songs. Of course the track order is arbitrary (alphabetically) and in this case I use shuffle. To play albums, just select the album and it will play it in track number order, provided the info. is correctly stored in the mp3 tags. (it also works fine with wma tags).
ALl in all, I am happy with it and I hope some of the issues will be corrected with future firmware releases.
Digital camera Review: OK for Music, No good for Audiobooks !! Summary: 2 StarsThis is not a bad player for music (mp3) but useless
for Audiobooks in mp3 format.
It will only resume from the start of the track not
where you left off and there is no bookmark feature
for mp3 files.
(Some Audiobook tracks are over 20 minutes long)
I'm surprised as their earlier model resumes exactly
where I left off.
I'm puzzled why they would remove a good feature.
Digital camera Review: Not what I expected Summary: 2 StarsI bought this player for it's ability to use removable media. Had it less than a month and am already having significant problems. Player turns itself off in the middle of a song or e-book, arbitrarily locks up while scrolling through menus, and frequently cannot recognize SD cards. The only way to delete songs from the player or SD card is to sync with your PC. Player will allow you to put more mp3s on it than it should and not leave itself enough room for the system files to execute rendering it useless. Poor documentation for operation and/or troubleshooting. All in all, very disappointing. Had to finally return it to Sansa after several attempts to remedy though the help desk. Maybe the next one will be better.
Digital camera Review: Awesome item!!! Works easily and perfectly!!! Summary: 5 StarsThis item is great! Controls are very easy to figure out, with no small buttons. Very easy to load songs (just drag and drop).
Bought an extra on for a family member.
