Digital camera reviews of SanDisk SDMX2-1024 Sansa e140 1 GB Digital Audio Player with SD Expansion SlotDigital camera Review: Good Value Summary: 4 Stars
If you're looking for a reasonably priced mp3 player, you've found it. The player itself is lightweight, and a real value. It's expandable with an SD Card. I'm not a highly critical listener. But, if you are, you shouldn't be buying an mp3 player anyway. The only negatives I've found are the cheap earbuds, and the snap closures on the vinyl case. I've repl;aced the 'buds'. And I'll live with the snaps. Hey, I didn't buy this for the long haul. If it lasts 3 years, until the technology stabilizes for this product group, it will have met my needs.
Digital camera Review: Good Value, Poor Battery Life Summary: 4 Stars
I've been using this unit to play music for about 3 months almost every day. The expansion slot works well and easily. I've used it with a 512mb card and a 2gb card without problem. I'm looking forward to trying a 4gb card when prices drop a bit more. Start up takes a bit as the player indexes all of the songs everytime you start it. I get about 250 songs per gig using 128kbps WMA. The plastic case is too tight as supplied. It would cause the SD card to pop out on occasion. Putting the case under hot water and using a pen to stretch the sides out fixes the problem.
Battery life is typically a bit over 3 hours using 900mah rechargeable batteries, and the batteries can't be recharged in the player.
Seems to be durable. Has withstood a couple of drops from the elliptical trainer in the gym, and just finished using it 7 days for over 8 hours per day while on a motorcycle trip without any problems.
Of course the headphones are junk, but this seems to be true of every single MP3 player on the market today.
Digital camera Review: Good player Summary: 4 Stars
Good player - when I first got it had trouble with books on CD which I downloaded onto this from Real Player. A friend told me it was playing on random which caused the chapters to be out of order - however, when he adjusted it for me, all the chapters were fine and in order. Music sounds very good on this player and so do the books. I wish this screen was bigger as it is hard to read, but I use a magnifying glass and it is fine for me. I would recommend this one.
Digital camera Review: Good player with expandible memory Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this player mainly because I did not want to be stuck with the small built in memory of the others. I already have a Creative ZEN Nomad with 60GB disk for many years where I carry ALL my music. However, I wanted to have something really small and solid state that I could take around all the time without risking hard disk damage. Having a spare 2GB SD card from my Canon camera, the Sansa E140 was the perfect choice. I am pretty satisfied with it, though I agree there is room for improvement.
Pros: SD slot for up to 2GB cards (guess this limit may be increased with new firmwares).
Good sound quality
Easy of use
FM radio
Good earphones compared to other players of similar price.
low price
good battery life (though shorter when using SD cards)
Cons: Does not have playlists.
Slow start (33sec when using a 2GB card and a total of 400 tracks)
Does not remember track position after power cycle.
For me, the most disappointing problem was the lack of playlists. However, it can be "cheated" using the mp3 tags. Since the player sorts music by mp3 tags, to enable a collection of 170 songs I have as a selected playlist, I have set the tag of year to 2010 of all of them before copying them to the player. When I want to play them as a playlist, I just set the player to play the 2010 year songs. Of course the track order is arbitrary (alphabetically) and in this case I use shuffle. To play albums, just select the album and it will play it in track number order, provided the info. is correctly stored in the mp3 tags. (it also works fine with wma tags).
ALl in all, I am happy with it and I hope some of the issues will be corrected with future firmware releases.
Digital camera Review: Good product and worth the money Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this player for about a month now. The player is worth every penny paid. The only complaint I have is the product's resume function. If you happen to turn the power off in the middle of a track, it will start from the beginning the next time you switch it on. Overall, it's an outstanding product and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for a good product at a very reasonable price.
