Digital camera reviews of SanDisk Sansa Clip 2 GB MP3 Player - Black

Digital camera Review: 100% Satisfied
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my first purchase of an mp3 player. I'm a gigging musician who has never purchased anything less than high-end audio components for my home. My ears are spoiled and so are my family's, so I haven't been too quick to jump on the mp3 bandwagon. I bought this for my 10 year old son for Christmas.

If you simply want to listen to music, this is a GREAT product. The sound quality of this little unit is pretty darn good right out of the box. I may upgrade to another set of ear-plug style headphones to see how much of a difference it will make, but the ones that came with it sound pretty good. The EQ presets are a nice feature, but the only one I would ever use is the "Jazz" preset - it cuts better at full range than the others for any style of music.

My son was able to figure out how to operate it after a few quick pointers, and I'm sure that he knows it better than me now.

The only drawback, of course, is the memory size. 2 GB fills up pretty quick. But I knew that going in. It is what it is - a great sounding entry unit! I'll probably be getting a couple more for my other 2 sons.

Digital camera Review: 2 Replacements - both defective. Long time Sandisk user
Summary: 1 Stars

Have been purchasing Sandisk mp3 since they first came out and never had a problem with any of them before. Ordered this and first arrived defective out of the box with broken clip. Returned for replacement and next "froze" on the equalizer setting - won't turn off, won't play music, won't do anything but sit there. Not sure what happened with the quality of these but doesn't seem to be same reliability as former Sandisk units. 2 lemons in a row - buying a different unit altogether.

Digital camera Review: A GREAT portable mp3 player!
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted something (MP3 player) that is small and portable... what about an ipod you might say? well, I considered an ipod shuffle at first, but it doesn't have a screen, it doesn't have built in radio, and it's much more expensive than the Sansa clip, so I decided to go with the Sansa clip. Very good battery life, and it's very durable, I bought it about two years ago, and it's still going strong as ever! Great purchase, very happy with the Sansa Clip!!

Digital camera Review: A fantastic purchase all the way around
Summary: 5 Stars

The Sansa Clip is truly a well-made and seemingly undermarketed product. Cheap, long battery life, stores a great deal of music, easy music loading (plug in, then drag-and-drop), plays MP3 and OGG files. Built-in radio and tiny yet good-quality microphone included (I've done interviews with it and I'm very impressed by the result, saved as WAV.) Light, super-portable, the included earbuds aren't bad either. Great for joggers or hikers. Works well with audiobooks too, "bookmarks" where you left off if you switch to something else. Perhaps best of all, with a new refurbished Clip at down to $20, I'm never too worried about losing it - I'm not saying that I'm careless with it, but I am saying that I don't lose sleep if I don't know where it is.

For the sake of a balanced review I'll mention some things the Clip doesn't do so well. 1) if you have more than 20ish authors or albums on the Clip, it can become tedious to scroll through all of them and the "Shuffle All" option might be better, and 2) sometimes it has trouble detecting the audiobooks as audiobooks (putting them in the "Music" category instead). 3) it would be nice if you could browse music by folder and filename, instead of the Clip having to spend up to 3 minutes detecting all your files and organizing them into its own special library based on music metadata.

Digital camera Review: A genuine "Best Buy"
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this mp3 player on the recommendation of Leo Laporte of This Week in Technology. After reading reviews of the device, I ordered another pair of earbuds because I assumed that the ones that came with it were typical of bundled earbuds, not very good. I received the SanDisk Sansa Clip and the other earbuds the same day. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the earbuds bundled with the Sansa were better than any earbuds I had ever had, and that includes all the buds I've received with players (inlcuding an iPod Nano) and the ones I've bought as stand alone earbuds. This mp3 player is a great value. The mp3 player is terrific and the radio (which you pay $50 for as an add on if you have an iPod) is not bad at all. This is a great buy.

UPDATE: It's now been a year and a half since I bought this product. I have to say I've given up on it because of the poor battery life. This has been a complaint since the Clip came out. The evangelists try to explain it away, blame it on users, etc., etc. But the bottom line is, the Clip has horrible battery life.
