Digital camera reviews of SanDisk Sansa Clip 2 GB MP3 Player - Black

Digital camera Review: A great little MP3 player
Summary: 5 Stars

This device is the essence of a simple and functional mp3 player. It does one thing really well: play mp3's. This is a player for people who don't want or need the frills of other player, or who don't want the cost of those other players ether. This device does not have a large touchscreen. What it does have is a bright OLED screen which can be seen though even many years of scratches (3 years). The menu is straightforward and gives enough detail to make choosing a song simple and efficient. Essentially, it uses the same menu setup as an ipod nano, except no scroll wheel, you actually PUSH the buttons, which I always felt was faster anyway because I constantly over shoot when using the scrollwheel. Songs can be arranged by artist, genre, album, or all at once in alphabetical order. Neat, and simple.

The sound is excellent, I'm no audiophile, but can tell that the sound is great, clear, and loud if you want it to be. It comes with 5 presets on the Equalizer for various musical genres, but it also has a "custom" setting where you can choose to amplify of dampen various ranges of the audio spectrum, 6 ranges, controlled in small increments. It's similar to a mixing board. If you like me it's great because I enjoy a lot of bass, which you can boost to the point where it overwhelms most headphones, or you can make it sound like your inside a toaster oven, whichever you prefer. Of course it has the obligatory shuffle, repeat, etc.

One thing I hate about the touchscreens is that you have to pull them out and "unlock" the screen before you can fiddle. There is not tactile feedback because it's a screen, so it's more difficult to make adjustments while it is in your pocket. With this little device, there are enough buttons on the outside so that you can control all the critical functions without even looking at the device. pause/play, back, forward, menu, volume, on/off, and lock are all available on the outside of the device. Yes, you can lock the buttons, which is a great feature, but you can easily unlock it without even taking it out of your pocket. A great feature in my book.

If you can use a thumbdrive or memory stick, you can put music on this device. Plug it in to the computer and it appears like a memory stick. This simply drag your music to a folder inside and that's it! The next time you turn the device on, it "Updates" and there you go, all your music is there. Also, your music does not have to be organized in folders or anything, that would be for your convenience only. The device uses ID3 tags to organize the files, so be sure that you use itunes or Windows media player to rip cds because it can get all the tags online for you.

It even has a few extras. It has a FM tuner, which can scan and automatically make every strong station in your area a preset, so if your listening to music, you can "surf" though the channels like on TV. Also there is an option to record the FM radio on to an MP3 to listen to later. Great for capturing that favorite song they never play. There is a tiny microphone in it as well which you can record any message or sound. The device makes them into MP3's which you can download onto your computer like a thumbdrive. It doesn't capture the best quality of sound, but it's good enough to record a conversation.

One little complaint. When your playing a song, you're seeing the song info, like minutes elapsed, etc. to get back to the menu to choose another song, you have to hit the menu button, then go "forward" on the "back to song list" option. Your inclination is to go back right off the bat, but no. It's a little counterintuitive, sort of like clicking the "start" button on a computer when you are trying to turn it off. But one gets used to this pretty quickly.

The battery lasts just as long as stated, 12 hours, though it's a bit less when listening to the radio.

I've had this device for 2 years. The screen has many scratches and I've used it a lot. But it still works great and I can see the screen great. It's a wonderful device for anyone who does not want or need the frills or expense of some of the other (you know who you are) devices. Buy and Enjoy!

Digital camera Review: A rought start, but it worked out
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first received the 2 GB Sansa Clip, I dragged and dropped several different size mp3 files. The files that were less than about 9M, showed on the Sansa Clip display and played well. Those larger than about 9M did not display and could not therefore, be played. When connected to a PC, internet explorer or windows media player showed that these larger files were on the Sansa Clip. I had four or five emails exchanges with Sansa. They were helpful and the last provided a few recommendations on how to reformat the Sansa Clip, even though the Sansa Clip comes with a reformat tool. I believe the second reformat method worked and now I can load larger mp3 files and they show up.

The product is physically the smallest mp3 player I have and the clip makes it very easy to clip on a shirt or jeans pocket. I am quite happy with it now.

Digital camera Review: A tiny player, that rocks!
Summary: 5 Stars

This little player was a big surprise to me. Have you ever seen a super tiny electronic device that seems to do more than is possible for it's tiny size? Well, this certainly fits into that category. To illustrate how tiny this thing is, the size of the circular dial on the front of it (the blue glowing circle) is slightly smaller than a quarter. The player itself is super thin too. So here are a few more reasons why this player is amazing:

Pros:
-Super Tiny and Thin
-Sound quality is great
-Built in Radio
-Built in Microphone
-Built in Clip (hence the name) and perfect for jogging
-Super bright 2 color Led Screen (it's probably organic LED)
-Plug & Play (at least it was for me)... just like a USB drive
-Long lasting internal battery (my guess is at least 8 hours play time)
-Charges through standard Mini-usb to USB cable.
-Amazing price for all the features it includes.

Cons:
I honestly don't have anything bad to say about this player, and I swear that I don't work for Sandisk. I kind of collect MP3 players and also own the Creative Zen Vision and Zen Muvo^2.

Conclusion: If you are thinking about buying an Ipxd shuffle or replacing your shuffle, this player is perfect for your needs and is so much better than a shuffle. It is easier to use, has more features, and sounds better! Not to mention it also has a LED screen. Plus, you don't have to deal with Itunes. Just plug this baby in, drag some songs from your computer and you're done. And yes, it does have a "Shuffle" play mode which includes "Repeat tracks" or "Play once" options. This little player really is a marvel of modern tech... I hope someday they will sell one with 60GB of memory. Now that... would Rock! For now, they only come in 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB... I think.

Digital camera Review: A very nice music player (I love it!)
Summary: 5 Stars

I have purchased this small player about 1.5 years ago. After using it so frequently (like daily) for that long time, this small device still works great!

It has several functions I like most:
1. In-device rechargable battery
2. Hold and lock
3. Fast pace (forward or backword)
4. Good sound quality
5. Functions to set playing time (like a hour or two, this is extremely helpful, when I listen to stories at bed)

Overal, it is a great device with a good price. You need a try by yourself.

Digital camera Review: ARE YOU KIDDING ME? so good - perfect companion for Rhapsody
Summary: 5 Stars

Let me start by saying -- I have owned and played with many, many, many players in my day. I recently bought this little guy for my Mother - I wanted something cheap and easy for her because she has no experience. For $50 at Bestbuy, I am now ready to get rid of my other HI End players.

The most attractive feature to me initially was the size, price, and the fact that it works with Rhapsody. I could load several hundred songs onto this for my mother. What surprised me was just how well Sandisk pulled it off in this little body.

Two simple improvements over past Sansa items - is that you can drag Rhapsody channels over in addition to albums or playlists. So I dragged the "50's" channel over and within minutes I had 100 or so songs in that genre. Previously only Rhapsody branded products could do this.

Another huge plus - you can delete songs directly from the player. I always wanted to be able to do this instead of having to hook player up to my software and do it there. Now when you are jogging and you hear an anoying song you can very easily kill it forever. The product works flawlessly with Rhapsody -- I am sure it works great with any service. Also has a cool feature where you see facts about the artist -- (this may only be a function of Rhapsody which by the way is also a fantastic service -- you don't need to own a few songs when you can rent the entire world!!!)

Another nice touch is the ability to create a "Go List" which is essentially a playlist on the fly. You can add or remove songs from the go list directly from the player. And making this even easier is a new feature where you can set the middle button to perform several different tasks. For example: you can configure the middle button so that holding down for a few seconds and a song will be added to your "Go List", or a song will be "added to library", or pull up the song ratings menu. Very convenient. I like to run - the clip lets you keep a library of music, along with Rhapsody Channels. The channels are really good because you can pick categories and it loads your player with music. These channels songs are not part of your library, but as you listen to the channel if you hear something you like you can move it into your library with one click. It's a great way to explore new music. Load the player with songs and artist you love, but let the Rhapsody Channels introduce you to new music. Channels automatically update whenever you connect to the Rhapsody system - so you will always have the latest music. I really like the "MTV Channel".

Doesn't do video or pictures, but then again you wouldn't be looking at a tiny clip device to do that anyway. This particular model is 2gb -- they now have a 4gb model. I find that between my albums and 2 or 3 Rhapsody Channels, I have more music then you could possibly ever need - and it always updates with new stuff.

Bottom line - if you want something compact, cheap, perfect for excercise, I can't see how you can beat this product. Only negative I can find, as with just about every player except the Sony NWZ-A818, is that the supplied headphones are pretty bad. With a nice pair of buds the sound from this player is incredible ( also includes presets for different equalizer settings as well as a USER equalizer)..

Well I can't say enough good things. You won't find very many negative reviews I can assure you of that -- this player also makes a great 2nd player that you won't worry so much about because of low price tag.
