Digital camera reviews of SanDisk Sansa Clip 2 GB MP3 Player - BlackDigital camera Review: Best buy for the money! Summary: 4 Stars
I will preface this review by stating that I am no technological wizard. With that said the Sansa Clip is on close to the best $60 I have spent in quite some time. Due to some of my shortfalls in computer operating I had little strugggle getting started with the music downloads, but after a couple of tries I am pretty sure my dad could even do it. ( He still asks me how to start his VCR!)
One thing I was pretty disappointed in the initial charge time one the batttery. At no point do the included instructions tell you how long the Sansa Clip needs for the initial charge. I almost returned the Clip because I didn't think the battery was charging. After calling Sansa, I was told that pluggnig it in to my laptop was not sufficient. I had to use the USB on the back of my desktop and then it still took and overnight to charge. Once I was over that, all has been great!
One last thing: It's not a huge deal, but I am glad I bought new ear buds along with the player (Somkin' Ear Buds). The head phones provided are junk.
Due to the price difference and the ability to see the music you are listening to, I would RECOMMEND THIS OVER THE i-POD SHUFFLE IN A HEARTBEAT!
Digital camera Review: Best friggin' little thing Summary: 5 Stars
This device is brilliant. You won't be worried in harming it, because it's solid, compactly designed and fits well in any pocket.
Now that you are carefree about actually using it everywhere, you can take advantage of it's virtues: good sound, incorporated mic for recording on the go, fm radio, and a screen display that is simple but intuitive & helpful. I don't miss the 2 million colors of my ipod at all. It's a music device after all.
If you want to carry all your music, this is not the artifact, of course, since it has only 2 gb. But 2 gb is enough for carrying your all time favorites, plus the few new cd's you buy, until they bore you out and you decide to replace them with some new acquisitions.
I recommend it as it is cheap, good quality, and a thing I can see myself using in 10 years, no matter how much technology advances, because it is so light that even if they make them smaller it wouldn't make much difference.
Digital camera Review: Best little player Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using my 2G Clip for nearly 2 years now. Before buying it I had small players from Samsung, Insignia (Best Buy store brand), Phillips and a Zen Stone. Why so many? Most died young from accidents or rough handling. All it all it was a good thing or I never would have run across the Clip. It is the best player I've owned. The best part about it is its little operating system. Much more flexible and easy to use than any of the others (a lot like an Ipod). Battery life was pretty good at about 10 hrs. of playing time between charges.
This unit is very tough. It's taken a beating over the last couple of years and still works like new. The actual clip was a problem because it was detachable and would come "unClipped" at times. Fixed that by removing the clip adding a drop of superglue and sliding the clip back in.
I use my player for music and playing high bit rate radio shows / podcasts. It's easy to load using drag and drop from windows. The only downside for me was capacity. I couldn't fit as many shows as I'd like to take on long trips (files are about 35MB each). If you don't have a huge amount of data, you can't go wrong with this player.
I've just solved my capacity problem by getting an 8G Clip+ with a 16G MicroSD add on card. I didn't even consider getting another brand.
Digital camera Review: Best mp3 player I've ever owned Summary: 4 Stars
My dad sent me a red 2GB clip a few years ago for Christmas. I *love* it.
PROS:
- Battery life is unbeatable. I've used it to listen to music on 4-6 hour bike rides even when it wasn't fully charged, and it would keep playing. When the battery indicator gets down to the very last sliver of 'life', you still have about half an hour of listening at a decent volume and if you aren't fiddling with the controls. I've gone for 2-3 days of heavy (4 hrs+) use before having to charge.
- Easy to read and navigate. I especially love the shade of blue used for the backlight on the navigator, as well as the satisfying 'click' it makes when pushed. You can dim and brighten the screen for use in dark rooms or outside in sunlight.
- For less than the cost of a comparably-sized (memory-wise, but also physically) iPod Shuffle, you get a screen that tells you the name of the track that's playing, as well as a progress bar.
- FM radio. I don't use this often, but when I'm at a hockey game, I'll often try to tune into the game on the radio to keep up with the play. Its reception is decent, even for someone who lives in a basement apartment.
- The CLIP! I know the iPod Nano's newest version has a clip now, but until 2010, I was secretly gloating when I went to the gym and was the only one able to clip her wee-tiny mp3 player to her shirt.
- I've only used the voice recorder once, but it worked perfectly and has a much more sensitive microphone than I expected. Impressive!
- Sound quality is great. I'm not terribly picky, but I do use the equalizer (comes with presets as well as a custom eq function). I use silicone ear plugs, especially on bike rides - that minimizes outside noise & allows me to use a lower volume to conserve battery life). I believe the earplugs that came with my player were Sennheiser, but I don't use them.
- Will work with Windows Media Player OR you can drag & drop files in Windows Explorer.
CONS:
- The on/off slider sometimes requires a few pushes to turn the unit on. The first time this happened, I thought the thing was broken and I was terribly upset. A while later I tried again and had no trouble. Since then, I've noticed that it can just be picky - either I didn't hold it in the 'on' position long enough, or I used too little/too much pressure. Mildly annoying, but the player still works great. The Clip+ has a separate on/off button that I like better.
- The volume control (a rocker switch) is on the right side, while the on/off/lock slider is on the left side. I often inadvertently deafen myself when trying to turn the unit off because I'm squeezing the volume switch.
- I don't like using Windows Media Player, and I think that's the only way to create playlists (unless you're creating a Quick List within the device). So far, I've never been able to create a playlist on my computer and have it work on the player. I'm still alive and happy.
- No Linux support. My husband runs Ubuntu, but we can't get this device to work with his system. Only mine.
Last year, I bought a SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 4GB player because this one has served me so well. It's also a terrific little device, but the Clip+ definitely has a shorter battery life. The original 2GB is the one I use more often, even if it does have less memory.
Digital camera Review: Best nonvideo mp3 player on the market Summary: 5 Stars
This is hands down the best mp3 player available today. I purchased one for my wife and liked it so much that I ordered one for myself too. It offers all the features that you would find on an ipod in addition to an fm radio as well. The sound quality is excellent. The battery life is pretty good too. Sometimes the menus can be a little confusing to navigate through at first but you will get the hang of it rather quickly. I own an ipod mini and a nano and this player beats them both. I usually just clip it to my shirt while working out and its so indiscreet that I sometimes forget its there. Excellent product.
