Digital camera reviews of SanDisk Sansa Clip 4 GB MP3 Player (Silver)

Digital camera Review: Cheap, small, good capacity, easy to use.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a nice little player. It is easy to use and sounds great. It also has an FM radio, which is cool. Unfortunately, it doesn't have AM (I listen to baseball games), but that may be because it requires a different antenna type. My Sony AM/FM radio Walkman is heavy and bulky by comparison. It has decent capacity at 4GB and easy to use controls. Rhapsody is a bit slow to register the content, but it doesn't need as many updates as iTunes. It charges fairly quickly using powered USB ports on your computer. Unlike an iTune Shuttle it plays playlists or albums. You can randomize if you wish. My wife had hers for 3 months (I put the music on it and updated the firmware and Rhapsody), then I bought one because I liked the way hers worked. Our 60GB iPod just sits there now.

Digital camera Review: Clip accessory is fragile, hard to make playlists, but other than that...
Summary: 3 Stars

First the problems I have had:
The first one of these I purchased lasted one use because the clip itself cracked and broke. This was very disappointing since the reason I purchased it was to clip it onto my shirt during exercise. Sansa would not send me a replacement clip accessory, but Amazon took it back and I got another one. Be aware that the clip itself is FRAGILE.
[Sansa now sells replacement clips on their website]

The second problem I have is making playlists. I had to research on the internet for how people did playlists because it comes with no software. You can download a user manual from Sansa that shows you how to make playlists from Windows Media Player, but that didn't even work for me. Other people use Winamp or Media Monkey to make playlists and seem to have found a way to do it. I can't get the songs to show up. I follow the instructions and it shows EMPTY on the player. If you are one of those who likes hard to solve mysteries, who likes to tinker with electronics you might be ok. If you are like me and want an easy to use software that does things easily you may want to go somewhere else.

Now the good things:
1. NOT an ipod so you are not stuck using proprietary software like itunes
2. small
3. you can have actual albums on there! It is not just a shuffle which to me is just one big playlist. I can decide I am in the mood for Daughtry and play the whole album. You can choose by artist, album etc. and not just have a random shuffle like on other small MP3 players.
4. good sound quality
5. FM tuner for the gym

So I am only giving this 3 stars because of the clip accessory breaking and because making a playlist is way more challenging than it should be. It is a good price, small and sounds good. You have to decide if the good outweighs the bad.

Digital camera Review: Compact and Convenient-I Love This Little Guy!
Summary: 5 Stars

I tell you I am sick of iPod by now and its proprietary software. It's a headache to load and unload content with iTunes. I saw this little device in Best Buy and I had to try it. It was so easy to drag and drop music and audiobooks including Audible content. Then it froze on me. Not to worry, just hold the power button in the "on" position for about 20 seconds, release, then turn it on. It reset just fine. The sound is not as loud as my iPod Touch but it's still very good. It holds a surprising amount of content. The battery hasn't run down on me yet and I use it practically all day. It's tiny enough to put it anywhere on my person and take it anywhere. It adds no more weight or bulk than a pack of matches. The clip is easy to remove if I don't want it. I will continue to use my Touch for videos-it's great for that. But for music and audiobooks, I will use my Clip. I also like the Fuze and would have bought one except for 2 reasons: it's considerably larger than the Clip and it doesn't accept Audible content.

Digital camera Review: Constant Companion
Summary: 5 Stars

To add to the many other glowing reviews: I had an ipod nano and thought life couldn't get better--except for iTunes. Then the battery died. I did a lot of research for my replacement and ended up liking this way more than the nano. Great sound, tiny size, very light, the clip works great and can clip to your t-shirt. I found most headphone cords way too long and tangly with this tiny thing, so I have taken to using a twist tie to keep the excess cordage out of the way. Sansa updates the firmware regularly and you never know what new features your clip may have! For example, it now plays .ogg files. The voice recorder works well. I've only used it to make notes to myself, but it's handy for that, and may well be good for lectures. You can use almost any media player to load it up--except iTunes--or you can just drag and drop files onto it. You can use it as a portable drive. It's great for books from Audible--probably the best player on the market for that. My only complaints, and they won't bother most people--are that it plays podcasts from newest to oldest, and I want them the other way; and it won't play the .aac format that itunes turned all my files into (more an Apple issue than a Sansa issue). It fits in my coin purse with my RAZR--and I can use the RAZR charger to charge this. Excellent value and performance.

Digital camera Review: DON"T BUY THE SANSA CLIP!
Summary: 1 Stars

What a rip-off! The little plastic clip broke within a couple of months. I called their "customer service" and they promised me a one-time replacement, free of charge, five months ago. Despite repeated contacts, they have never delivered. Then they reversed course, claiming the plastic clip was an "accessory" (never mind that the product is called a Sansa CLIP) and saying that it wasn't covered under warranty. They are telling me to purchase a pack of three clips for $15, which is a significant percentage of the original purchase price. Don't buy from these rip-off artists!
