Digital camera reviews of SanDisk Sansa Fuze 4 GB Video MP3 Player (Black)Digital camera Review: 4 GB Sansa Fuze Summary: 5 Stars
This was a Christmas gift to my son, so I have not personally used the item in question. However, he seemed to love it and had no problem synching all his old music files to it. He loves the large display and battery life. He also likes that the memory is expandable. For the price, I think this was a very good purchase.
Digital camera Review: 4GB Sansa Fuze is plenty Summary: 5 Stars
This Sansa Fuze is the second in our family. My husband has an 8 GB. I find the 4GB plenty big enough due to the little slot for external storage (micro SD card). It permits just another way to separate music type. We recently used it on a self guided tour of Italy. We downloaded walking tours from Rick Steves website (guide books were purchased at the best price from Amazon). The player has a much appreciated pause button. As to sound quality, that depends on the ear phones you use. The little lightweight ones don't give great fidelity but are so easy to carry! At home, I use a heaver set that results in great sound. The player can be re-charged internationally (as can a cell phone) as long as you have the inexpensive plug adapter.
Digital camera Review: A Short Packaging Rant Summary: 3 Stars
I confess that I haven't been able to evaluate the Fuze's functionality yet but...
The packaging is just bizarre. Maybe it's to deter theft from the stores' shelves?
No real manual is included, just a "Quick Start" sheet with minimal information. You have to go to their website to download the main manual and a file conversion utility, both of which would fit on the mini-CD that's supplied. The only software on the CD was a promo to buy songs.
Apparently this thing is sold at a low price in order to make money on the songs, not unlike the low prices on ink-jet printers, with expensive ink refills.
There's got to be a better way.
Digital camera Review: A Very Satisfied Customer Summary: 5 Stars
Compared Sansa Fuze with iPod Nano 4Gen and tried to convince myself to go with ipod, but SanDisk won! I think iPot it nicer looking but got this product for half the cost of ipod and it comes with Radio which I had to spend extra on ipod for and I love it. I made a good choice!
Digital camera Review: A bit hard to get used to, poor documentation, SD slot Summary: 4 Stars
The scroll wheel concept is difficult if you're not used to it. Some menus you use the buttons, some you use the wheel. Some features are hidden, like when a song plays and you hit the center button: who knew? It's certainly not in the worthless 37 page PDF manual, nor is how exactly to pop in the micro SD cards; they have to be flush, not hanging out or they're not really loaded. Found that out by luck; almost called Support.
A non-typical USB cord? Who are they? iRiver? Everyone else can get by with the standard USB cable, from mp3 players to GPS devices; not Sansa!
The lack of documentation is irritating. First thing you have to do is charge the player and meanwhile download the updater and the manual. Great!
Otherwise, I like the heavy feel, the screen is bright, the controls work OK once you're familiar with them, and the micro SD expansion slot is a great feature. You could buy the 8GB model, get a 16GB SD card and have more storage than an older PC! as well as 99% of the other mp3 players on the market.
I can't comment on the video capability since I haven't used it, and the FM tuner is nice.
Seems like the volume is a bit weak; have to go up to about 50% of max before it gets very loud.
And of course, the earbuds suck. I got a nicer pair than these for free when I bought some Schick dispo razors. Come on, guys! Is a decent $5 pair of earphones too much? Guess so.
Good, expandable player for the money. Some dealers have a problem keeping them in stock, like hh Gregg! Paid $59 on sale (when they finally got one in.)
