Digital camera reviews of SanDisk Sansa m240 1 GB MP3 Player (Silver)

Digital camera Review: ***** WARNING! DO NOT BUY THIS PLAYER *****
Summary: 1 Stars

I got this as a Christmas gift. Nine days later it froze up, EXACTLY as described by peachpit2112, P. Ford, C.R. Burke, Lori D. Wanner, teamperry, white rider, and a WHOLE LOT of others. And yes, it's the SAME firmware version. (Read the customer discussion threads at the bottom of the page - these folks are NOT exaggerating.)

When I contacted SanDisk support, I got the "power recycling" reply; when that didn't work, I got the "return to store" reply. If I can get the seller to give me a refund, I will definitely buy a different brand. Otherwise, I'll do my best to make trouble for SanDisk!

By the way, when mine worked, I had trouble playing files with bit rates other than 128kbs for mp3 files, and 64kbs for wma files. Files sampled at rates other than 44,100 hz also caused problems. The player would simply lock up; the only way to make it work again was to hold the power button down until it shut off. Then I could delete the bad file from the player with Windows Explorer, like a normal disk file. (Luckily I could use my Linux box to re-sample & re-encode the file.)

There are too many identical complaints here for this to be a bad batch - it looks more like a basic design flaw combined with poor production quality control.

So save yourself some grief - buy a different brand.

Digital camera Review: *UPDATE* ---WARNING!!!!! DO NOT BUY!! NEEDS TO BE RECALLED
Summary: 1 Stars

OK, here's an update, after speaking to AMEX and Sansa, it's been determined that it comes with a 1 year warranty (indicated ONLY on their website) and my AMEX buyer's assurance does not come into effect until after that, so after going through the motions with Sansa tech support, they finally agreed with me and issued a new one. They'll let you print out a UPS RMA label and you just package it up and send it to them, and you'll get a new one in about a week. It appears that these 1GB models (Sansa M240) NEEDS to have their firmware upgraded. Their's a download available on their website.

Got it as a Xmas gift for my daughter. Worked fine up until a few days ago (considering she didn't use it all that much). Same problem as MANY other people, Froze up. Not recognized on any PC. Waste of money. Went to look for warranty information only to find none existed (at least none that I could find in the manual, blister pack or online). Will try to get my money back since I used AMEX with extended warranty. Spend your money elsewhere!

Digital camera Review: *Was* Valid Complaint, But Now Firmware Fixed Problem
Summary: 5 Stars

"I primarily listen to spoken work programs - audio books and radio shows. If you do this as well, DO NOT BUY THIS PLAYER. It does not have any resume feature, whatsoever. If you turn it off, you must manually fast forward or rewind to your stopping point. To make it worse, those rewind/fast forward speeds are horribly slow without any menu options to change those speeds. I had the eariler Sandisk 1mb player and it was a much better product."

One of the reviewers mentioned this problem. This was a problem with just about all the MP3 players. I took one of the files from NetLibrary that did *not* resume properly with earlier SanDisk products, but it works fine with this one.

Digital camera Review: 2 Problems....
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my first mp3 player. I bought it based on these reviews (thanks everyone).

Considering its my first, I found it fairly easy to set up and play music. I just use the MS mediaplayer to rip cd's and sync them to the sansa. No problem there. The sound quality is pretty good, especially after I changed the equalizer setting from "custom" to "rock".

My two gripes are these;

1) I cannot shut off the replay option. If I pause a song, it will replay once it reaches the end. I have to manually skip to the next song. If I don't pause a song, it will continue to the next.
*Note*
The replay option under settings IS turned off!!! Anyone else have this trouble?

2) San Disk neglected to include a manual and setup cd. Very annoying. But their customer support directed me to the manual online which I downloaded and printed. Just an annoyance.
