Digital camera reviews of Sandisk Extreme USB 2.0 3in1 Card Reader (SDDRX3-3IN1-901, US Retail Package)Digital camera Review: WOW!!! Excellent product, excellent seller Summary: 5 StarsI used to download my pictures using a PCMCIA card reader, and even the fast CF cards would take forever to download (approx. 0.9 Mbps). When I got the Sandisk Extreme USB 2.0 reader, I was able to get downloads 16 times faster, up to 14.8 Mbps, so a 2Mb 133x card went from over 40 minutes to 2 1/2 minutes to download, so I'm really impressed.
Digital camera Review: Fast with SD, OK with CF Summary: 4 StarsThis might be the fastest USB CF reader today (is it?) but it isn't as fast as I hoped.
Using HDTach, I could read a couple fast UDMA CF's at 18.1 MB/sec with this reader.
The same CF's connected though a CF-SATA adapter, read at 42 MB/sec and 36 MB/sec.
A hard drive connected through USB can be read at about 35 MB/sec.
Oddly, performance for SD was quicker. I was able to get 19MB/sec with this reader. That's close enough to the max speed of any SD today, far as I know. (CF can be faster than SD, today.)
It's a good product, just not as fast with CF as one might expect. If you want faster, consider a firewire reader if you have firewire, or a UDMA CF-ATA or CF-SATA adapter if you have some patience to get them to work properly, and know how to connect them to your computer.
Another option for laptops is a cardbus UDMA CF reader. Delkin sells one. But may be difficult to get working with Vista or OSX.Delkin Cardbus 32 Bit High Speed Compact Flash Card Adapter, UDMA Compatible
Digital camera Review: FAST FAST FAST!! Summary: 5 StarsWow! What a difference this reader makes. I always thought my old reader was ok, but this SanDisk Extreme reader changes everything.
Installation was plug and play.
The reader has a nice rubber bottom that prevents it from sliding around your desk and the slots are clearly marked on the front.
Using my old reader, I would get an average transfer rate of 2.5 MB/second (about 520MB in 3.5 minutes). With this SanDisk I get a transfer rate of about 7.5MB/second (about 520 in 70 seconds)! And this is using a "generic" brand standard speed memory card.
If you feel like you are wasting a lot of time waiting around while you download images or videos from your memory cards, this reader is for you!
Digital camera Review: Sandisk Extreme USB 2.0 Reader Summary: 5 StarsVery good product. Installed very easy and works great. Another plus to having a reader is that it takes the wear of downloading what is on the chip off of the camera. I was told that downloading from the camera does put considerable wear on the camera. I do not know if this is true but why not take any additional load off the camera.
Digital camera Review: Very fast, easy. Summary: 5 StarsThis reader works very fast and is easy to use. Just plug it in and start uploading. Much faster then using my camera to upload. Can't be beat for the price.
