Digital camera reviews of Sandisk ImageMate 5-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader SDDR-99

Digital camera Review: Destroyed my SanDisk Ultra II memory card
Summary: 2 Stars

This card reader worked great for about year or so, then one day it corrupted all the files it transferred. Luckily, I was still able to transfer the pix directly from the memory card/camera to the computer. But THEN when I tried to use the card again, it would not work. So, it completely destroyed a SanDisk Ultra II 1GB memory card. Needless to say, I can't use this product any longer.

Digital camera Review: Didn't work for me
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this card reader, and had problems with it from the word go. Be aware that it may not work with your WinXP computer.

Digital camera Review: Didn't work in Vista after update
Summary: 4 Stars

The reader is nice and much faster than connecting my camera to the computer. I have a 2 GB Sony card and when it's full it takes me almost 3 hours to transfer from the camera, and only 12 minutes to transfer from this reader.

I think 6 minutes per Gb is not as fast as one could expect, as it is quite far from the reader, the card or the USB port max speeds. But it could be so many things (reader, card, port, processor, operating system, drivers) that I don't know which is to blame here.

The only problem I had was that after updating my firmware in XP (as suggested by SanDisk website), I could not use the reader with Windows Vista. I called costumer service and they didn't have a solution, but they sent me a new one (with the newest firmware) which worked.

Digital camera Review: Digital Photos Made Easy
Summary: 5 Stars

Forget the cables and all the other accessories to connect your camera to your computer. Just get the Sandisk to make your life easy. Best device I ever bought for under 10 bucks.

Digital camera Review: Does What I Needed
Summary: 5 Stars

I use xD camera cards and 2 gig SD cards as backup media. I had one SDDR-99 5-in-1 which worked very well, but I needed two more for other machines. All three are working as well as I could wish. If you're looking for a card reader and the SDDR-99 handles your card, you can't do better.

Caveat -- If you have an older 5-in-1, the new card readers will not be recognized by the old 5-in-1 software (previously installed on all three machines) You need to install the software which comes with then new SDDR-99 and are now called 9-in-1 by the software. The old 5-in-1 plays well with the new software.

Caveat -- It is rumored (not verified) that some readers do not handle high-capacity cards, SDDR-99 goes to 2 gigs at least.

Full retail package comes with CD and USB cable.
