Digital camera reviews of Sangean RCR-22 AM/FM Atomic Clock RadioDigital camera Review: Could be better so easily Summary: 3 Stars
THE GOOD. The atomic clock works flawlessly even in Virginia, far away from Boulder, Colorado where the signal is coming from.
The radio is decent but not outstanding. Its reception is about the same as my previous cheap ($20) clock radio. The sound quality is OK from the monarual speaker and excellent when using stereo headphones. The existance of the headphones jack is a big advantage.
The volume control is analog but capable to regulate practically down to zero. That is really good.
COULD BE BETTER. Setting up the alarm is not intuitive. I had to go back to the manual multiple times and even now I am not sure how to get there. Have to try several times before I accidentally do it right. Otherwise I am a technical person.
THE BAD. Like many other reviewers already complained about the bright display I have to join them. A night clock should not have this enormous lit panel without the dimming ability. Instead of the whole background only the numbers should be lit.
The presence of the AM capabilty is useless for me. I wish they'd used the resources for better purposes.
Digital camera Review: DST can change all it wants with this radio! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this atomic clock because I wanted to replace my older clock that would automatically adjust to the OLD Daylight Savings Time schedule.
Well, I wasn't disappointed as this radio adjusted to the new schedule with no problem.
The only problem I have is that you have to turn up the brightness on the display during the daytime in order to see the time from across the room. But then at bedtime, the display brightness is then too high and has to be turned down again. A reviewer mentioned that he wished the clock came with a photo sensor (auto dimmer). Now I know what he was talking about.
Every other feature about this radio is great as mentioned by the other reviewers.
Here's some additional info that I don't think has been covered yet:
The atomic signal sensor "capsule" has a 32" extension wire so that you can mount it away from the radio if necessary.
The radio has a 41" external FM antenna wire.
To test the "super capacitor", I unplugged the radio for 3 hours and to my surprise the radio still kept my alarm and tuner settings!
Digital camera Review: Did not like this clock radio Summary: 2 Stars
This clock kept great time and the radio reception was great. The problem with the clock was that it was too difficult to program, and I didn't need to have aggravation from a clock radio, so I returned it and bought something simple that works just as well.
Digital camera Review: Disappointed Summary: 1 Stars
I had this clock for 3 years now and I was actually thinking of replacing it because I've grown tired of some of it's shortcomings. I'll make this quick and concise:
Pros:
-Daytime display is nice
-Being able to set the days of the week individually for the alarm is nice
-Atomic Clock setting is nice
-Looks nice
Cons:
-There is no auto light adjustment. I have to manually dim it at night...then make it bright in the day. If your room is bright in the morning, you won't be able to read the display if it is dimmed. This alone is frustrating enough not to buy the unit.
-The "off" button for the alarm along with the sleep and many other button are tiny. It's very hard to select them in the dark or half asleep. Even after 3 years...I sometimes turn on the radio instead of silencing the alarm.
-After 3 years, when I set the alarm time, sometimes the days cancel themselves. It looks like the electronics are starting to fail. I'll be setting the time and the days change...(two separate functions...buttons).
-Atomic time is nice...if you are in full range of the signal. I'm on the fringe...one day the antenna fell behind the nightstand and I didn't notice...sure enough the next time the time changed...I assumed it auto-adjusted and was almost late to work...it hadn't picked up the signal.
I would recommend staying away from this unit...if anything based on the button size and the manual dimming.
Digital camera Review: Disappointment Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this radio because the reviews said that it had good reception. I live by the ocean and was looking for better reception than the sony cube that I had.
Sadly I must say that the reception was worse and I was even careful to stretch out the wire for the antenna.
Also, the clock does not set itself like it said.
Very disappointing and would not buy one again,.
