Digital camera reviews of Sanyo Eneloop AAA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries (4 Pack)Digital camera Review: Decent rechargeable and hold charge pretty well Summary: 4 Stars
I have used them for a couple weeks now and they perform pretty well.
Digital camera Review: Defective Summary: 1 Stars
One of the four batteries I received is defective and will not hold a charge. The others seem to work ok.
Digital camera Review: Dependable Rechargeable Batteries Summary: 5 Stars
These batteries come pre-charged, seem to hold a charge for a long time and are very easy to identify, unlike some rechargeables that look too much like disposable batteries. They are quick to recharge.
Digital camera Review: Dependable and they hold a charge Summary: 5 Stars
I bought these because of the claim that they hold a higher portion of their charger longer than normal batteries even when not being used. Since I like to keep spare batteries around, it is annoying to use a rechargeable battery and find out it needs to be recharged before I can use it. So far, these eneloop batteries have performed very well and I am happy with them. I have not had any problems with them losing their charge when uninstalled, and they seem to last a long time when installed. I would buy them again.
Digital camera Review: Discharge far too quickly Summary: 1 Stars
I bought several sets of Eneloop AA batteries for things like remote controls and Wii controllers, along with A LaCrosse BC-700 charger. Typically, non-rechargeable batteries would last about six months in our programmable remote, a Philips Prestigo. The Eneloops, which arrived fully charged, lasted about a week. I went through the restore/refresh program on the charger and brought them back to full charge. Again, they lasted about a week.
I consulted La Crosse customer service to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong, and gave it another go. Again, about a week before the remote stopped working. Strangely, life in the Wiimotes are about what we were getting from the standard batteries. But in our mini keyboard and wireless mouse for the HTPC? About five days, compared to several months with regular batteries.
For what I paid for the Eneloops I could have gotten several years worth of batteries for most of these items. I don't know if they're faulty, but I have tried swapping them around, with the same results. It just seems certain devices just don't play nice with them and I have no idea why. The only devices I can recommend their use in is the Wiimote. Otherwise, save your money.
EDIT: After doing more reading, my situation seems to be typical BECAUSE the TV remote uses 4 batteries. The typical experience seems to coincide with mine - devices that use one or two batteries tend to be OK, thee batteries will have reduced longevity and four or more batteries (cameras, flashes, wireless keyboards, etc) die almost instantly. Given some variability in actual output, devices that require four AA batteries end up 1.2V (+/- a bit) short of their required power input - essentially one entire battery.
I guess once you realize that 1.2v rechargeable batteries are not suitable for the majority of applications for which you'd actually want to use them, then there's no problem. However, it's incredibly frustrating to know that most of the devices in your house will not have nearly the longevity with rechargeables as with regular batteries, and that to determine which ones requires research, when it should just be a simple, foregone conclusion that a AA battery will do what it's supposed to do. The only solution is to keep the charger handy for its daily duties. And I'm still unhappy that something that's marketed to solve a problem actually creates a different but much more frustrating one, and for a lot more money. I'd aim that criticism at any rechargeable battery. Not worth the cost.
