Digital camera reviews of Sanyo Xacti CG6 6MP MPEG-4 Flash Memory Digital Camcorder (Blue)

Digital camera Review: Good and Tough.
Summary: 4 Stars

I have now dropped this camera 5 times. I mean small drops.
This camera was also left in my sailing bag with used diesel filters.
I thought that might have ruined it, but no it keeps working.
The camera can by charged through its mini USB connector or with provided charger with camera. This comes in handy when you forget the charger.

There are a few problems.
When recording, the battery does not last too long. I can understand this problem. This camera is so small there is not much room for the battery. There is a longer lasting battery available for it. I wish sanyo sold it with that battery.

If you turn it on with the lens cap on then remove it and it is bright outside the F stop will not stop down enough to show proper exposure. This happens to me when down hill skiing or out in the sun, what I have to do is turn the camera off then back on with the lens cap off first.

This camera can take a photo while recording video. But when you do take a photo the video freezes for about a second or two while the photo is taking place.

The Mpeg4 file format from the recorded video is not compatible with windows media player. But I found K-lite codec. This codec helps windows media player play the videos. You can also can get the thumbnails from the videos to work for it. Please don't hold me responsible for your computer it is your decision to install this codec but it worked well for me. Oh yeah I have windows XP.

Digital camera Review: Stuck Pixels
Summary: 1 Stars

February 2008:

Purchased the Sanyo VPC-CG6.

August 2008:

Noticed two of the Sanyo CCD's tiny pixels were stuck on the colors yellow and blue, respectively, causing a tiny yellow and blue square to appear on all recorded videos and still images.

August 2008:

Sought help from Sanyo Service -- in spite of the fact the 90 day warranty period had expired -- only to receive the comment from a Sanyo Service customer support representative that fixing the camcorder's CCD would cost "as much as buying a new camcorder."

Even Aiptek -- the low cost manufacturer based in Taiwan -- offers a one-year warranty! In Addition, my Aiptek "Action HD" camcorder is high definition and cost the same amount! No more Sanyos for me. The warranty does not seem competitive, quality control/reliability questions abound, and bang-for-the-buck seems better with other manufacturers (such as Aiptek). I realize Sanyo constantly releases newer models, but I feel I've been burned by this purchase and, therefore, I'm not willing to risk any more expenditures for this company's products.

Digital camera Review: No moving parts
Summary: 5 Stars

And no tapes. I like the size, its very portable. I can take it where ever I go. It has a nice big screen. It takes pictures as well as shoot video. It has a 6 MP sensor, and good stereo sound. It create standard mpeg4 files that can be directly imported into imovie with no conversion needed. Video quality is better than my DV tape. It has trouble with low light, but not terrible and is completely usable, just don't expect a thousand dollar quality. Highly recommended. Cold Eyes

Digital camera Review: Great little camcorder
Summary: 5 Stars

And I do mean little. This camcorder is about the size of a deck of cards and packs a lot in its small package. I had originally looked into the Panasonic SDR-S7K camcorder but the Sanyo had a lot more to offer. Having a quality digital camera and a camcorder in one small package is the only way to go. Video is on a par with the Hi-8 format video camera. It's not Hi-Def but it doesn't claim to be. Digital camera photos are very good and clear. Its Macro focus in a lot better than every other digital camera that I own. It will focus down to about 1/3". The biggest mystery to this camera is why it isn't sold in more stores. I looked everywhere before I bought to get a hands-on look but it could not be found anywhere. Bottom line is that you can't go wrong with this camera.

Update:
After having used this camera for a while now, I still think it is a great little camera. Movies and outdoor photos are very clear. Another plus is the ability to link your video clips together right in the camera. The only complaint I have with it is the strength of the flash. It's pretty much useless for flash photography as it only has a range of about 6 feet.

Digital camera Review: Good times had by all!
Summary: 5 Stars

The camera is extremly easy to use and the most refreshing part about it, is you don't have to install any software on your computer to load the video files. Just plug it in, click and drag.
