Digital camera reviews of Sanyo Xacti CG6 6MP MPEG-4 Flash Memory Digital Camcorder (Blue)

Digital camera Review: Best for travel!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this camera for a trip to New York. I wanted something small. What I recieved was a camera no bigger than my cell phone, perfect! The ease of video recording was a blessing and the hand position was natural. Every control was thumb operated, natural. The single shot quality was on par with my high dollar Cannon. At 18 hours of record time and 4000 stills, I never worried about an extra card. Picture, sound, still quality was suprising after being downloaded to the best software I have recieved from a manufacturer. Drawbacks?, Only one, needed a tripod when using the zoom, it was so strong that it was difficult to hold still. Did I mention stereo sound in playback? Very cool!!!!Forget the big hand helds, this is the future! Oh! wait! I have it! It's here! Buy it if you can find it!!!

Digital camera Review: Fast shipping
Summary: 5 Stars

Great little camera. I was considering the purchase of a new flip camera until I found this camera. With a true optical zoom and small size it is the ideal camera to throw in you pocket or backpack for any outing.

My only complaint is that the manual is somewhat confusing but that's a common problem for digital cameras in general.

Digital camera Review: Best of the Standard Def Palmcorders! Mac/PC Compatible!
Summary: 5 Stars

I highly recommend this camera for the family enthusiast wanting to capture moments with a decent picture quality, but without the need of DV or HD quality video.

We did a lot of research on cameras before purchasing the Sanyo Xacti CG6 and I remain surprised that this camera is not more popular. Of all the palmcorders, this one is by far the most well rounded. For starters, it has a decent picture (for a palmcorder), the image stabilization is ok (not super, but noticeably working), and it's MP4 format is easy to work with. Major bonus points go to this camera for the decent size and camcorder like view screen, removable SD media and removable battery. For shooting the baby, we find the pivoting/rotating and big screen really nice. Unlike other palmcorders, you can carry extra SD cards and batteries, which is a huge benefit. I also like the the amount of manual control available, and the menu system is comprehensive and easy to navigate. Finally, being a Mac OSX guy, this camera mounts like a drive and the MP4 format imports seamlessly into Mac apps, particularly iMovie. The USB 2.0 port is easily accessed and files transfer VERY fast to the computer. I use a 4GB SDHC card and the highest video setting (640x480, 30fsp, 3Mbps), which stores 2:45 of video, and a spare card in the camera bag. I also have spare battery, but have not yet needed it (I rarely shoot more than an hour between transfers to the computer).

There are only a couple of things that I think could be improved on this camera (and I really have to dig to think them up):
- it would be nice if there was an internal lens cap, but the one it's got is ok
- The 6MP stills are mediocre in quality. But, that's why we have a digital camera and this is a video camera.
- we found a case that really protects the controls well, they seem a little vulnerable to damage.

Digital camera Review: like it
Summary: 4 Stars

I like this little camera..it is suitable for home videos and is very handy...very light and small. haven' t found any faults or defects on it yet..the vidoe quality is reasonable and for the money I paid i think its a good deal.

Digital camera Review: Great design and feature set. Poor quality control.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2315JHVQRG6JT Let's get right down to it. A stuck pixel on the CCD and the audio is not in sync with the video. Don't know how this one got through quality control. A refurb is supposed to operate up to factory specs upon being inspected or repaired. A stuck pixel is ok on the display but definitely not on rendered video. Other than that, it's totally awesome.

Update April 10th, 2008
Received another refurb CG6 for an RMA and same problem. Dead pixel on the image sensor. I called Sanyo in Canada and customer service says that their refurbished products don't come with a warranty. So if you plan to buy a refurbed CG6 and you're getting a warranty, it's through the distributor, not the manufacturer. My advice is to spend about $30 more and buy one new that comes with a 90 day warranty from the manufacturer.
