Digital camera reviews of Seagate 1TB Barracuda 7200.11 Bulk/OEM Hard Drive ST31000340ASDigital camera Review: Great drive Summary: 5 Stars
I was happy to go with Seagate and that's what we've always used at work. I love the fact that it has a 5yr warranty. I do have to say that we recently switched to buying Western Digital brand at work when our Seagate failure rate skyrocketed past 50% of purchased drives. This *cough* seemed to come after their purchase of Maxtor *cough*. To be fair to Seagate, they cannot control how the hard drives are shipped unless you buy straight from them!
I have two of these drives setup in RAID 1 configuration and loving it so far. great product. Keep in mind (as others have said) the drive will arrive screwless, wireless and instructionless. If you don't know how to install one, I probably wouldn't practice with your brand new 1 TB drive.
Digital camera Review: Great drive for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased and installed two Seagate 1TB drives in my new system and the drives are fast and very low noise level..and the cost was outstanding
Digital camera Review: Great price for A LOT of storage. Summary: 5 Stars
Although not purchased from Amazon, this drive was the perfect solution to consolidate my music and video libraries. Performance has been about the same compared with a smaller 320GB Maxtor HDD which is being replaced. The high marks were for the price. I will be looking at purchasing a few more of these drives and putting them into an external RAID 5 enclosure.
Digital camera Review: Happy in every way Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased six of these drives. Five went into a QNAP T509 Pro, which I configured with RAID 6 and now have 2.7TB of usable storage that can survive two disk failures without loss of data. Disk number six went into an eSATA enclosure and provides offline backup of 1 TB of the QNAP for my most critical data.
I read numerous reviews of the failure rates people are experiencing with modern high capacity SATA drives. To me, they all appear to have a similar failure rate, so don't be surprised when they die but rather plan for it, just as you expect a light bulb to eventually stop working.
Digital camera Review: High failure rate in these drives. Summary: 1 Stars
There is a very high failure rate in these drives. I bought 4 of them and within 6months all of them have begun the click of death....the click of the heads resetting. A simple google search shows that the Seagate Barracuda has an extremely high failure rate and this click of death is very common among this drive between 500-1.5tb and firmware cc34-cc37. Could be different sizes and firmware but those are the ones I have specifically looked for.
