I purchased this drive for my Drobo. Now going on 90 days without a problem. Limited noise comes from 4 of these drives that populate my Drobo. Once thing is how hot these drives run. I have resorted to placing my Drobo in a ventilated rack system to maximize the cooling of the 4 closely positioned drives.Digital camera Review: BRICK

This drive failed within 12 days of purchasing it (grinding click of death). Just prior to biting the dust it passed the entire suite of SeaTools diagnostics with flying colors! I sent in for a replacement and it was DOA out of the box. A SECOND replacement lasted a whole 26 days before grinding to a pitiful end. After that I gave up and got a refund -- less restocking fee. The two Western Digital 1TB drives I got instead have thus far been trouble free (going on six months now).
This is a cheap drive in every sense of the word. It is less than useless, since you cannot trust even a working model with your data; it has a high failure rate. If you own one of these and it is still working, I would suggest backing everything up to a reliable drive and tossing it. That's better than losing 1.5TB worth of data! If someone were to GIVE me a new one of these drives I would recycle it. I wouldn't even try to resell it on eBay since I value my feedback too much.
Seagate's large capacity consumer drives have gone downhill. I would only consider buying their enterprise-level HDDs at this point (which I cannot afford anyway) since they are tested thoroughly and are not cheaply designed/manufactured. Avoid this model in particular! If you read all the horror stories about this drive and buy it anyway (like I did), then you've no one to blame.
I frankly don't know what Seagate could do to get me to buy their drives again. Once you lose trust in a storage device, what is it worth? Perhaps if I hear nothing but rave reviews about their drives for a few consecutive years, I MIGHT consider the possibility of thinking about imagining a scenario in which I could theoretically contemplate the potential of evaluating the prospects of a hypothetical purchase... maybe.

Frustrated. Returned the drive after repeatedly unable to format drive in a Windows Vista PC. Formatting hung at 73% complete two times in a row. Seagate diagnostic software could not find a problem. Should of read the many other unsatisfied reviews on Amazon before purchasing this Seagate. Returned the Seagate Barracuda to Amazon and purchased a Samsung 1Tb SATA, formatted it without a hitch and it works without an issue.Digital camera Review: Bad sectors in a new disc

I bought this drive a few month ago, and after some use it crash, the operative system get frozen and there are nothing to do but restart. I have asked to seagate support but their helps is not usefull.
I have the last firmware available and the problem is still there.
