Digital camera reviews of Seagate Barracuda 7200 1.5 TB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s 32MB Cache 3.5 Inch Internal Hard Drive ST31500341AS-Bare Drive

Digital camera Review: Bare drive = No packaging
Summary: 1 Stars

I ordered a pair of the 1.5TB drives for use in a NAS device, and was horrified when they arrived.

Though the description rightly advertises these as "bare drives", there was no packaging/padding inside of the Amazon box at all, meaning that the two drives had rattled and bounced around all the way to my front door.

I was hardly surprised when I connected them to find both suffering from click death, necessitating a return and refund. While the price is great, the chance that I'll have to go through several attempts to find two drives in working order is a chance I'm unwilling to take.

Digital camera Review: Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB Click, Click, Click eventually DEAD
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought two new Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5 TB - SATA-300 on October 13 2009, they shipped with the CC1H firmware. They worked fine under Windows 7, but about 30 days later I started to hear the click, click, click then the computer would lockup with Event Log errors that hard drive timed out. I ran SeaTools for DOS (boot cd-rom) which found 6 errors and fixed them. About 10 days later the computer froze again, upon reboot it wouldn't boot. SeaTools for DOS said the drive was not responding to any commands. I called Seagate Support was said there were no known problems with this drive and sent me over to Warranty Support where I paid $19 dollars to get another drive shipped so I can re-build my PC. Google search for Barracude 1.5TB freezing has a lot of hits.

Digital camera Review: Barracuda Rocks !! Great HDD !!
Summary: 5 Stars

All,

Barracuda promises few things
1. Rotation Speed - for more data transfer
2. Lesser heat compared to previous baracudas
3. 32 MB Cache offers good data speed

I have been using this HDD for almost 6 months now and i am perfectly fine
with the fact that it has not given me any problems tilll now.

The only problem with 7200 RPM drives is that they are a bit noisy.

BUT, this series is comparatively less noisier than some other barracudas.

For me, noise is not a big thing to worry as i have put this in a external esata based
enclosure which i connect as a external storage to my PC.

Overall, this is a excellent Hard Disk to purchase.
I am expecting 7200 RPM and 64 MB Cache series for my next purchase.

Its worth a buy when it comes to barracudas!!

Digital camera Review: Best Choice!!
Summary: 5 Stars
