Digital camera reviews of Seagate FreeAgent 500 GB 3.5-Inch USB 2.0 Hard Drive ST305004FDA1E1-RKDigital camera Review: Big Storage for your desktop 500MB Summary: 3 Stars
Seagate makes this big heavy 500GB drive which is quiet and reliable. Its definately a lot larger than a stapler, even a Swingline stapler !..but its still good value. The newer drives are smaller and lighter but with 500MB of storage this is a big boy. I dont expect this drive to be 'portable' and have a smaller Western Digital 160MB drive for my laptop case.

I purchased this product to back up my Windows laptop that was dying. After backing up all my files I still had about 400GB left on it. It seemed okay on my Windows desktop for the first 3 months (only reading the files though) until I plugged it into my Mac laptop after not using it for about 2 months. On my Mac I was able to read the files but I could not write to it so I just shrugged it off as a compatibility issue. About a year after I used it on the Mac I plugged it into my desktop again so I can back up more files but Windows didn't even acknowledge that there was anything plugged into it (there was nothing wrong with the port since it was able to read a WD drive on the same port) but the Mac was still able read to from it. I don't know if this hard drive was either defective or if it was because I plugged it into the Mac or if Seagate just makes crappy hard drives, but I only backed up files onto this drive one time and it just decided to lock up. I only had WD hard drives and this was the only Seagate drive I ever purchased because it was on sale. When it comes to my files you only get one chance so I'm sticking to WD from now on.
All I have to say is if you plan on purchasing any Seagate hard drives make sure you have an extra hard drive to back up your files just in case this happens to you too.
Digital camera Review: Buyer Beware Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this hard drive to back up all my important pictures and videos. A year later, it doesn't work. Seagate sent me a new power cord, but unfortunately, that didn't fix the problem. Data recovery is not covered under the warranty. Goodbye memories!

This is twice in two years that this or previous versions of this hard drive stopped working. I don't see the point of backing up files onto an external hard drive when the life expectancy is shorter than the internal hard drive. I am done with Seagate and it Free Agent models.
Digital camera Review: Buyers BEWARE!!! Summary: 1 Stars
This unit is like owning a pet rattlesnake. Its exciting, fun to feed, easy to maintain, then one day it bites you on the face and you die! Thats what my seagate freeagent has done to me. After a year of electronic bliss and feeding my drive all kinds of data, one day it just turned on me with endless errors and unable to access data. I've spent countless hours trying to diagnose the problem, putting my work off to try to access my data. After days of research I've come to learn that it is a HORRIBLE design flaw. With no cooling system, it will slowly bake itself (and your beloved files) to death. Then when you try to get help from Seagate, they'll try to charge you to retrieve your data and treat you like crap!
Beware, you're unit will certainly turn on you like it has thousands of buyers!
