Digital camera reviews of Seagate FreeAgent Pro 500 GB USB 2.0/FireWire 400/eSATA Desktop External Hard Drive ST305004FPA1E3-RKDigital camera Review: Good for Macs, too Summary: 4 Stars
Bought this to go with my PowerBook because my Mac repair shop told me Seagate was the best in the biz when it comes to hard drives. Although you can't use the sharing software with the Mac you get a big chunk of gigs and it's extremely easy to setup - seriously, a monkey could do it. I formatted mine into two segments and so far it's working flawlessly. The only reason I don't give it a 5 is really my own fault, I suppose...I'm addicted to Macs!
Digital camera Review: Great External Drive Summary: 5 Stars
I'm very pleased with this external hard drive. My wife got it for me for Christmas. I use it with Time Machine on OS X Leopard. Easy to setup and I like that it has firewire and USB. I am using the firewire. It's small, slick, and has a large storage capacity.
Digital camera Review: Great External Drive At Reasonable Cost Summary: 5 Stars
I bought two of these 18 months ago and love them! I use them as working drives for video editing and have never had a problem, even daisy-chained with two older external drives. The extra firewire port can also be used to hook up a video camera with the computer.
I noted a few other comments about heat output and failure to go to sleep. My drives are hot on the bottom and they do not go to sleep when the computer is idle, but I don't perceive either state to be a performance issue. The glow is kinda cool in the dark!
Digital camera Review: Great Warranty, Looks Cool, Ultra Quiet Summary: 4 Stars
Cool style and looks.
Great warranty for five years.
Owned for over a year and it goes off when I shut down by PC at the end of the work day.
I come into the office the next morning and it is on and running. I don't understand this odd behavior.
I'll keep it as the warranty has four years left.
The interface unit of either USB or firewire has to be installed by the user. So it it an either/or setup, so if you need both interfaces this unit requires you to remove and install a small module each time you switch between USB and firewire. I only need USB so I am o.k. with this feature.
Digital camera Review: Great external hard drive for e-SATA with the right cable! Summary: 5 Stars
I read good and bad things about this hard drive, and still wanted to give it a try, because every single brand out there have good and bad reviews. I couldn't find any external drive that didn't go wrong with someone.
Anyway, it's great to store. I don't use it for any of the automatic backup and all that, I just wanted to edit video and store huge files, and for that it's a great product.
Another thing is that if you want to use the e-SATA connection, be sure to buy the right e-SATA cable!!! Some cables don't get full contact, so better buy a good brand one, like SIIG ones. You can get a expresscard to use it with your laptop in SATA.
It took me a few weeks to find this tip, so the more people knows it, the better, because i tried several Expresscards and none of them worked, and it was the cable not the cards.
Oh, and the powerup button is great, pretty cool. Some people say theirs doesn't work. I give you an advise.. just put a coin on it and it will work (maybe you don't have good enough conduction in your fingers, who knows).
It's also fanless... so you don't hear a thing.
