Digital camera Review: Don't bother - Buyer Beware!
Summary: 1 Stars

I first bought my FreeAgent Desktop 250GB about 2 years ago. It was purchased so I could easily backup a couple of machines that I own. It was great to setup and speed seemed pretty good. I went to run another backup months later and it started failing well into the backup. Seagate support was great and I arranged an RMA online and new one was delivered from Singapore within 2 weeks (probably closer to one)...that was a year ago. I was using the drive about a month ago to copy files off my PVR and everything went swimmingly! I tried backing up a laptop yesterday as the lappy was heading in for repair and exactly the same symptoms as last time. I have another RMA arranged and fingers crossed I get a good one next time. In the meantime I'll be getting a Western Digital 500GB SATA drive for my PC and performing all backups to it. Ironically the drives I'm backing up have never failed, unlike the FreeAgent.

Digital camera Review: Don't think this hard drive is portable!
Summary: 4 Stars

The hard drive has great downloading speed - I downloaded 40 GB of songs in just one hour. It's a great product, and could be hooked up to any computer in no time, however if you're planning on carrying the hard drive around with you - then this is the wrong hard drive to buy! It needs its own power supply, as well as it is extremely bulky to put in a bag/briefcase/laptop case! For portability, buy the 'Freeagent Go' series.

Digital camera Review: Don't try this with VISTA
Summary: 4 Stars

While the Seagate Free Agent seems like it works just fine, the VISTA seems to crash every time - i get an error message I/O device error 0x8007045D. I googled this and it seems this is quite common - VISTA can't seem to handle the backup process without crashing. Microsoft seems not to care. So I have an excellent external hard drive and am unable to use it to perform backups. Wonderful.Seagate ST302504FDA1E1-RK FreeAgent Desktop 250 GB USB External Hard Drive

Digital camera Review: EASY to use HardDrive from a reliable Company
Summary: 5 Stars

This thing is cool. 250GB. It is very easy to use. I suggest Acronis Software. This thing is not like most HDD with only a 1 year warranty. They slapped on the 5 year warranty typical of the best HDD they make. You connect it to the computer and in windows a new HDD is mounted. In linux it works well also. Mounted automatically by most modern distributions.

If you need one, this one is easy to use. I like seagate drives, extremely reliable from my experience (I am a Net Admin) so I trust them a lot.

Digital camera Review: Easiest computer add-on I ever bought
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Free Agent to insure my Doctoral Dissertation work would not be lost in the event of a computer crash. This has to be the simplist device I've ever used. Plug it in and copy my files and folders. Took about 5-7 minutes. Quiet and fast. I don't know if it's good for business applications or high volume work, but it fits my purposes great.
