Digital camera reviews of Sennheiser CX300-B In-Ear Stereo HeadphoneDigital camera Review: A high quality alternative to Sony Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered these CX300s after my second pair of Sonys died. I loved the fit of the EX51 and EX71 Sonys and put up with their adequate sound for the isolation and comfort they offer. What I couldn't put up with any more is their fragility. I received maybe 1 year's service out of 2 pair of Sony phones and I refused to give them any more of my money.
When I saw these Sennheisers with a similar design as the Sonys I was excited as I have two other sets of Sennheiser (over the ear) phones which are excellent. Well, I'm not disapointed. These are more accurate and articulate than the Sonys and have much better bass without getting muddy. They fit as well as the Sonys and have a symmetrical cord*, which I prefer and believe will improve their durability as compared to the Sonys which always fail on the left (short cord) side.
I can't speak to the durability of these phones as I've had them only a few days but they COULD NOT be worse than Sonys that are certain to fail quickly.
I've seen a few posts that criticize these phones for their poor bass response. I suspect these people have not tried fitting the different rubber gaskets to attain a proper fit. I did this and the sound quality difference is amazing.
These phones also seem more efficient than the Sonys as they are louder at a lower setting. My point of reference here has (obviously) been the Sony EX51s and EX71s as they are of similar (in ear) design that I find very welcome when out on the street for their abilty to isolate one from ambient noise. These are not IMO, replacements for a good set of over the ear phones when in a quiet environment. That's not a knock on these specific phones as I don't believe any "in ear" design can compare with good over the ear phones.
Highly recommended!
Update: subsequent to my writing this I've come to learn that I purchased (through an Amazon associate vendor) the generic version of these earphones. They have the same drivers and gaskets, but a different cord* and no Sennheiser logo. After this was thoroughly explained to me, I'm fine with it as this version of "Sennheiser CX300Bs" have a Y cord and not the asymmetrical cord which so many of us have come to dislike.
Digital camera Review: A little bottom-heavy but definitely worth the price Summary: 4 Stars
I was sick of the iPod earbuds but didn't want to spend $100 on a new set. I found the CX300s for under $30. They're not the best I've heard (the bass is a bit hyped and there's something a little off in the mid range) but they are definitely worth the money. When the next step up in performance costs an extra $70, the CX300s look like a smart buy.
Pros: comfortable, good sound quality, comfortable, 3 sizes of inserts for secure fit.
Cons: a bit bottom heavy, no case (they get tangled easily in my pocket), sealed, in-ear design causes cord to make noise when it rubs on clothing (wish it came with a clip like cell phone headsets).
Digital camera Review: A little bright, but otherwise amazing! Summary: 4 Stars
I tried these earbuds as a potential replacement for my beloved Sony EX71's which are no longer being manufactured.
They were quite nice, but not without flaws...
Build Quality: Really quite good. I have no complaints here!
Fitment: The "medium" earpieces were a little bigger than the Sony or the Philips units, more in line with the Skull Candy earbuds. This means I wouldn't want to have these in all day, but that's a personal preference based on the size of MY ears!
Sound Quality: Really quite good. My only complaint here is the overamped highs. The lows were good - really a lot of bass, as many of these premium earbuds with rubber isolating inserts have. The mids were good. The highs were just ... too much. I'm not 18 any more, and that's a deal-breaker for me. It wasn't bad, most people would probably appreciate the definition, but I had to pass based on that.
Final Verdict: If you like definition in your music, these are definitely great earbuds!
Digital camera Review: A little too bright for me. Summary: 3 Stars
We have been experimenting with different buds to use as in-ear monitors for our band. The CX300-B's are priced well, but we found them to be a little too bright and sibilent for our liking. Although more expensive, the model we like the best thus far is the Shure SE 110... our search continues.
Digital camera Review: A little too isolating Summary: 3 Stars
I needed to replace a pair of Sony Clip-On In-Ear Stereo Headphones that I had for years and enjoyed very much. Sound quality was good for a non-audiophile and the over the ear fit kept them in place without being too invasive. These ear buds don't seem to have much bass response and the rubber ear pieces take some getting used to. It also helps if your ears are clean. My biggest beef is that the cord length is shorter on one side than the other, so the cord dangles oddly. I'm sure that's how it's designed to be, but it doesn't work for me and feels clumsy when worn. I'm now looking for another pair of the Sony's. Just my $0.02.
