Digital camera reviews of Sennheiser HD-280 PRO Headphones

Digital camera Review: Average Sound Quality, AWFUL Comfort
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought these headphones to replace my earbud iPod headphones, which are obviously not isolated at all. I was hoping I could get a good, high quality sound with a comfortable fit. I got the sound part, but with these headphones, the fit is ridiculously painful.

People comment mostly on the ear pieces being too hard, but it's the strap at the top that gave me a headache. It pressed down on my head firmly, at first giving a neutral, fitted feeling. But after about 5 minutes the band became uncomfortable, and after a half hour, it was downright painful. Even after taking the headphones off, my scalp was still sensitive and hurting.

I do NOT recommend these headphones. I give them 2 stars because they do what they say they do. They just don't do it well. And certainly not $80 worth.

Digital camera Review: Awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

I would consider these headphones one of the most worthwhile purchases I've made of anything, ever. This is partly because I listen to music very often, but it's also because this product is damn good at what its supposed to do--which is deliver clear, dynamic audio while eliminating background noise.

I don't care about the aesthetics or size of the 280s, but I could understand complaints of them being on the large/bulky size. Regardless, I find them perfectly comfortable and have had them on for hours without interruption, the only negative result being some sweaty ears (but no discomfort). On to more practical matters, I find the frequency response to be very even, which I prefer. Some people like excessive bass, which these phones could probably do decently enough if driven with the proper source, but that's just not my style. The bass is punchy and well-defined enough that it doesn't need to be loud to make its presence known.

The clarity is amazing. You can easily hear the motion of the lips of the singers, distinguish every tiny cymbal during a drum solo, and hear the faint click of a background metronome during a cello solo in rock music. Rhythm sections sound lively and precise, and melodic interludes soar and sing with these phones.

And lastly, there's the whole noise-cancelling thing. I'll just say that I usually listen to music loudly (though not more so than most people I know) and that it's very rare I ever hear anything from the outside world. If I clap my hardest, I can kind of hear it, but that's mostly because I'm expecting and trying to hear the sound of the clap. If you're on a street, and the guy behind you claps his hardest, you won't hear it. Droning sounds such as airplanes, buses, etc. can be heard through the phones, but only barely. Airplane noise is extremely minimal, meaning even small details in quiet music will not be lost at all. The loudest environment I've listened to music in was on an NYC subway (which is pretty damn loud). I happened to be listening to loud, metalish music and the subway noise was slightly perceivable. With quieter music, I could imagine some small details being lost, but the clarity would definitely still be there. Not many phones can do that, and certainly it's rare to find one that can for under $100.

If you're thiking about buying something like Bose, think again. The HD 280s are cheaper, more sturdily built, cancel noise better, and have a clearer, more even frequency response. The only advantage Bose has is more attractive aesthetics and a lower resistance level (a minor point, really). And just for the record, I've probably put about 400 hours on these phones and they've traveled around a lot.

Digital camera Review: Awesome Cans
Summary: 5 Stars

The Sennheiser HD-280 phones are simply excellent hadphones for the price. In fact, I'll go one step further; they're excellent at ANY price!
I consider these to be a fine value.
I use them mostly to listen to my portable divices, however, when I hooked them up to my stereo, I heard nuances in the music that I had never heard before.
Great job, Sennheiser!

Digital camera Review: Awesome Headphones
Summary: 5 Stars

My best headphone purchase ever. No in-ear headphones or high end speakers I have ever had have been able to produce the sound quality I have achieved form these headphones. A great purchase for under $100 that I would make 5 times over. Quality is amazing sound quality is unsurpassed. If you spend an equivalent amount of money on another pair of headphones you are getting ripped off. The only downside of these is their bulky size. Other than that, they are the best headphone purchase I have ever made and I highly recommend you make the same purchase as well. I have owned this pair for over 4 years and I am still as amazed now with the sound quality as I was the day i bought them.

Digital camera Review: Awesome for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I picked these headphones up for about $70 with shipping. They seem to be made very well and are of typical Sennheiser quality. Definitely a good buy.
