Digital camera reviews of Sennheiser PC 350 Collapsible Gaming Headset with Vol Control & Microphone Mute

Digital camera Review: Best Gaming Headset I've Used.
Summary: 5 Stars

While the PC 350 is an expensive headset, I am very impressed by the quality of construction and quality of sound reproduction. Additionally, the microphone is superb. Highly recommended.

Digital camera Review: Best Headset Ever
Summary: 5 Stars

I was the happy owner of a sennheiser 161 for like 2 years, it died because I had the bad habbit of chewing on the string when I got stressed programming. I gotta say this thing is far superior, I was worried it'd be expensive just because it looks a lot nicer and would not be much of an improvement over sennheisers $70 - 100 headsets. I was very impressed when they got here. The audio quality is not super improved from the older headsets, that's not a insult though as the cheaper ones have amazing quality. It has much more capacity for bass. The cheaper headsets sounded really bad on heavy bass parts. A lot of people think a better headset will make the bass louder or more noticeable at least, but its not the case unless you use an equalizer.

PROS:

The best change in my opinion is the microphone. The mics on the cheaper models were great, but this one has AMAZING noise reduction.

The next best thing is the ambient noise reduction. I honestly felt like the ear pieces were like suction cups because you can feel a noticable change in pressure when you put them on and your voice even sounds different to you when you speak. It's not exactly like ear plugs but there's definitely a noticeable drop in ambient noise.

The privacy is pretty good. People can't hear what your listening to when they're on your head, however the second you take them off its pretty loud even at low volumes.

More bass capacity.

More comfortable and nicer looking.

The wire is noticeably thicker...for me to chew on =P

Cons

Still the same cheap manual wheel to increase or lower volume. From experience these seem to break easily or cause one side of the headset to be louder than the other on certain levels.

It produces a crackling sound at 98Khz output sampling rate on my soundcard. I set it to 48Khz and it fixed the issue. Other headsets didn't have this problem.

It gets kinda hot around the ears.

One of the previous reviewers noted that the volume wheel sucks and won't turn the sound all the way off. I gotta say it makes it really quiet. If you want to mute the sound all together you can just set a hotkey with hotkeybind, autohotkey or some other free macro software.

Digital camera Review: Best Headset Money Can Buy
Summary: 5 Stars

This headset is the most amazing headset I have ever used. My roommate bought this highly recommended, by friend of his who works in a recording studio. I have since "liberated" the headphones from my roommate. The headphones are basically noise canceling, even without being plugged in, allowing you to have the volume lower. The sound quality of both the mic and the speakers is excellent. I would recommend these to anyone who can afford them.

Digital camera Review: Best bang for your buck
Summary: 5 Stars

I received my headset yesterday, and simply cannot stop using it. I bought it to replace my Sennheiser HD 555's on my gaming PC, and now I may not miss my old cans. They fit nice and snug on my big head, and the sound quality can't be beat for the price.

There really is no comparison to other gaming headsets; Sennheiser basically took one of their audiophile sets and added a mic. Beyerdynamic did the same with their MMX 300, but then I wouldn't recommend the PC 350 to anyone willing to drop $400 on a headset anyway.

Bearing that in mind, I thought it was a little bit strange that Sennheiser neglected to include a 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter. Most audiophile headsets are designed to be hooked up to amplifiers in order to get the full sound experience, and aside from the fact that it doesn't have an adapter, the PC 350 is no exception.

I normally plug my headphones into an A/V receiver that connects via optical from my PC, but it would appear that Sennheiser designed the plugs as default 3.5mm so as to cater to those who LAN often and can't afford to carry heavy amplifiers back and forth, and so I decided to give it a try without an amp.

As expected, plugging directly into my motherboard sound card via the 3.5mm plug yielded terrible results, with a lot of signal noise between the mic and the headphones. I found a spare adapter and plugged into my A/V receiver, then ran an extension cable to the mic port on the back of my computer. No problems so far with that configuration.

Pros:
Sennheiser audiophile-grade sound quality
Mic is crisp and clear
Sound isolation helps block out my noisy friends at LAN parties
Price ($150 versus the MSRP of $250)

Cons:
Designed for people with big heads
Needs an amp to experience the true sound quality

Digital camera Review: Best gaming headset I have owned.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned several gaming headsets. My last being the G5 and it was great but no comparison to this headset. Right when I got it, I compared it to my G5 and the sound quality is amazing with games. With music, its like I'm hearing songs for the first time. I use these on my gaming laptop which has a 7.1 sound card so the bass is perfect. I would suggest these headphones to any gamer wanting the best. I also think its fair to make sure you machine can push the proper bass.
