Digital camera reviews of Sharp EL-W516B Scientific Calculator with WriteView (Black)

Digital camera Review: Feature packed calculator
Summary: 4 Stars

The EL-W516B is loaded with calculating power and after a little practice is fairly easy to use. My only real comparison is with the older HP Scientific Calculators which in my opinion were the best of any you could find. The newer ones, however, are less expensive and give you plenty of functionality. This one is all the calculator I need.

Digital camera Review: Good and cheap calculator for Mechanical Engineering needs.
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a graduate student of Mechanical Engineering and when i bought this calculator I was not sure if its going to meet all my requirements...After using for few months now, I am glad that i bought it.

Digital camera Review: Good calculator. But not very intuitive.
Summary: 4 Stars

It out-features every other calculator under the $40 mark while being well under half that price. Only Casio's FX 991 series comes close but is beaten on both price and raw capability.

This calculator can handle 4*4 matrices... which is more than most (including the casio)

A great buy but has a learning curve - some of the functions are NOT intuitive.

Digital camera Review: Good format and features suitable for an engineer
Summary: 5 Stars

The entry format and logic are intuitive. I may be biased as I have always preferred Sharp's approach to others such as Casio. Being an electrical engineer, I find myself needing to perform complex number calculations constantly, and this calculator is very well suited to that task. I have no reservations recommending this product for your engineering needs.

Digital camera Review: Good, but not for programmers...
Summary: 3 Stars

Well, my main focus for this calculator was for programming support (hex, octal, binary, and, not, xor, etc...)...
It does all this! So that is great! woo hoo!

~BUT~

The reason I'm returning it is that it only supports 10 bits! 10!!!!! What ding dong main this choice?! Programmers need 8/16/32 bits, not 10!!! And what's more frustrating is that it is limited to the display, not the actual math, so if I enter "-1" in decimal, and do a convert to hex, I get "FFFFFFFFF" which is correct, Oct I get "777777777", binary "111111111"...the size is limited to the max displayed characters! This is useless to me. There is room for 16 bits (I'll forgo the 32 bits), but come on!

So, if you need this for programming stuff, and never use more then 8 bits BINARY, go for it, else find something better.
